Arsenal Transfer Prospects: Should Carlos Vela Be Sold?
When Carlos Vela burst onto to the World Footballing scene with a scintillating hat-trick against Sheffield United in September 2008, it was clear Wenger had unearthed another teenage gem.
Unfortunately, Vela has failed to really capitalize on that form. Since his debut, he has struggled to hold down a permanent role in the Arsenal lineup, only appearing in glimpses.
The young Mexican striker has shown moments of exhilarating skill and speed along with a fierce shot. However, Wenger's tendency to rarely play Vela has ensured fans have become hasty and questionable of the 21 year old's ability.

Now, after a disappointing 2009/2010 campaign which saw the former Osasuna loanee featured a mere 20 times (notching two goals), fans and critics are contemplating whether or not Vela should be sold.
But at 21 the Mexican international still has a tantalizing future ahead of him and now that Vela is equipped with sufficient experience and knowledge of the English game, he could thrive in the 2010/2011 season.
Vela is blessed with speed, tricks, balance and versatility.
He can be utilized as a central forward or as a winger. Also, he is especially useful as an impact substitution, giving both Wenger and fans some reassurance that there is a player capable of adding a much needed spark late in the game.
But with the recent signing of Marouane Chamakh, the return of Jay Simpson from a hugely impressive loans spell, and Robin van Persie, Nicklas Bendtner and Eduardo all fully fit, Arsenal boast a congested front line which could ensure Vela would receive only limited playing time.
Perhaps a loan spell to a Premier League or La Liga club is necessary for the Mexican starlet's growth. But in need of a talented midfielder, defender, and keeper, the hefty sum to be obtained in trading Vela must be alluring to Wenger.
Vela is talented and may thrive in a different league. However, many feel he is yet to fulfil his full potential and selling him at this stage in his promising career may come back to hurt Wenger. Nethertheless, should Carlos Vela be sold?
