Canes Recruit Disses Florida Gator Football Program
Kevin Nelson certainly seems like a headstrong kid. After all, it takes stones to verbally attack one of the most successful college football programs in country for the last 20 years.
Nelson, a Gainesville kid, chose to sign with "The U", instead of his hometown Gators, and it sounds like he's ready to single-handedly take down the entire Gator program.
His quotes from ESPN:
"I can't wait to play them suckers, for real," Nelson said. "I know it's a long time from now. I just can't wait 'till we play these suckers. They are just disrespectful."
"I can't get down to Miami all the time because I'm not financially able to, so I went to see a game at Florida because there's nothing else to do," Nelson explained. "After the game, Brandon Spikes was talking to me and told me to come in the locker room because he wanted to give me some gloves.
But then a guy that works at UF told me I wasn't allowed to come in. I told them who I was, that I have a scholarship offer from them, and I live five miles from the school. He told me that I had to turn around and wait.
"Then I saw the guy from Fleming Island, a big dude (Ian Silberman) who is committed to them. He's walking into the locker room with his boys and I am outside waiting to talk to my friends. It was very disrespectful. I'm never showing my face around here again."
Well Kevin, the feeling is most likely mutual my friend. Good to see the arrogance of Miami already rubbing off on Kevin.
Nelson also claims that during his visit to Gainesville, the site of two of the last four national championships, the "Gator Girls" gave him a hard time.
Wow, I've found it pretty easy to get along with most girls in Gainesville. Sounds like perhaps Mr. Nelson couldn't close the deal if you know what I mean. Kevin, Always be closing, Always be closing!!
So, it sounds like Mr. Nelson was at a game in Gainesville and was asked by Brandon Spikes to come in after the game and say hello. But not being on an official visit, he got rebuffed at the door by handlers to the locker room. After pleading his case, he was turned away like some sort of poser at a South Beach club.
According the the article in the Miami Herald, Nelson had this to say:
"People wonder why I didn't commit to the University of Florida. Exactly. They are disrespectful. They didn't really want me. They only wanted me because LSU offered me. They are grimy and two-faced."
Ahh Hello!
That's exactly the reason the Gators wanted you Kevin. It's called playing the recruiting game, and the Gators play it pretty well.
With arguably one of the most talented recruiting casts of the last ten years, the Gators have most likely put some distance between them and Nelson now.
However, Kevin just can't seem to let it go. Breathe Kevin, it's all going to be fine!
I know you have 2013 circled on the calendar and the game is in Miami. The place will be amped up and you will have your chance to show all of the Gator fans what they missed out on.
In fact, you can show them on that game day, because all of them will be at your stadium outnumbering Cane fans three to one.
Let the games begin...
