World Cup 2010 Predictions: 14 Players from Barcelona Sent to South Africa

Zaakir HoosenJun 8, 2010

Not so long ago, Chelsea was the club with the most representation in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. But injuries and roster cuts caused a number of players to be left out or replaced.

Now Barcelona has the most, with 14 players representing their respective countries in South Africa.

With just three days until kickoff, let's look at the Barcelona-based players featured in the 2010 World Cup.

Barca players will represent five different countries in the World Cup, and most will play vital roles for their team.

While playing in the World Cup is a dream come true for any footballer, there are certain negatives from the team's standpoint—many of which Chelsea is experiencing right now.

Ivory Coast's Didier Drogba is injured, but may still be able to play. If he does, he'll likely be sidelined after the World Cup. Ghana’s Michael Eissen and Nigeria's Mikel will also miss the tournament with injuries. These injuries, among others, allowed Barcelona to gain the edge in representation.

So, while Pep and his staff are happy they did enough for their players to receive a call-up, they will keep a close eye on proceedings, hoping none of their 14 players sustain any injuries.

The World Cup begins Friday.
