Should Cesc Fabregas Still Have the Arsenal Captaincy ?

Callum D'SouzaJun 7, 2010

The future of Cesc Fabregas has dominated the footballing headlines since the close of the 2009/2010 campaign. Will Fabregas depart Arsenal and rejoin his boyhood club Barcelona?

This conundrum will continue to be the lead story in world football until a decision is finalized, aside the fact the FIFA World Cup is closely upon us.

It is to hard and unclear to determine what will be the most likeliest destination for the Arsenal captain. But with his future still under a cloud it is surely making the rest of the squad, who are currently on a break or participating at the World Cup, uneasy.

This raises the question, should Wenger strip his midfielding maestro of the captaincy until the Spaniard can make a final decision on his promising future? Arsenal are a team built on leaders. The Gunners boast a number of strong contenders for the lead role, all capable of fulfilling and marshaling the younger performers around the park,

Fabregas's uncertainty of whether he still wants to commit to Arsenal are hardly the traits of a fearless leader, and with members of the Arsenal squad who have nothing on their mind but Arsenal it seems almost unfair.

No Arsenal fan wants to see the 23-year-old depart the Emirates, but the Spanish talent uncertainty isn't doing any favors to the club or fans. So should this mean Wenger should take a firm stance and strip Fabregas of his captaincy until a direct decision is made?

This would ensure Fabregas would come to a decision and hopefully put the footballing world's mind at ease.
