Minnesota Timberwolves Should Fully Expect Rubio in a Wolves Uniform

Timber WolfJun 3, 2010

Ricky Rubio was taken in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

It has been stated over and over by numerous writers, fans, and experts that Rubio will never play for the Timberwolves.

I can understand initially, but to this day, there are many people that still believe that Rubio will never play in a Wolves uniform, and that could just be farther from the truth providing David Kahn, the president of basketball operations, does not trade his rights.

There are so many reasons as to why people expect Rubio to never play for the Wolves. Those reasons include a small city, cold weather, immaturity issues, and system play.

But I've not one time heard the point guard say he would not play with the Wolves.

Over the last season, Kahn has stated many times that he has no doubt in his mind that Rubio will play starting the 2011-12 season, and it appears that decision has proved to work in the Wolves' favor.

Not only did Rubio fulfill one of his many dreams of grasping a Euroleague title, but he was the leader of that championship-caliber team at the age of 19.

Granted that he does not put up huge numbers, yet his team suffers when he's out the game, and that he can take a game over if needed, means that he will be far more skilled later than he is now.

If anyone is familiar with Fred Hoiberg, the former assistant GM of the Wolves, he stated over a year ago, that another European player by the name of Nikola Pekovic would like to come to the NBA at the start of this upcoming season, and while there was no interview, or statements regarding it at the time, it has become clear by now that Nikola Pekovic will be coming to the NBA this season—whether it's in a Wolves uniform remains to be seen.

Kahn and his staff have been nothing but honest, and I don't expect them to lie to the fan base that has been so loyal to him.

His talent evaluation is a little off, but if anyone follows him, you would have come across him saying that the two highest players on his draft board on the night of the 2009 NBA Draft other than Blake Griffin, was Ricky Rubio (an elite European point guard) and Tyreke Evans (the Rookie of the Year).

Hmm.

Sure, you won't catch Rubio stating anything about the Wolves during his interview overseas, but you won't catch him saying much about the NBA, period.

The fact that he's working on his game overseas without paying any attention to what the Wolves are doing, could be a testament to wanting himself to be the best player he can be without worrying about so-called "saving the Wolves."

Because Rubio slipped to five, he would earn significantly less amounts of money in his rookie contract, and because of his buyout situation, meant that he would have been playing for free during the next two seasons in the NBA.

There are videos on Rubio and his family, in which his mother states that he was going to have to wait in order to play due to that contract situation.

There haven't been any vibes from Rubio showing that he wouldn't come to the NBA and play for the Wolves. So why do we assume?

Thanks for reading!
