It's All Just Speculation.

Declan OlleyJun 2, 2010

After gate crashing the top four it seems that Tottenham have been linked with every football player out there. The constant media speculation is enough to drive anyone mad, although seeing Manchester City ‘begin talks’ with players such as David Silva and Gonzalo Higuain is probably even worse.

Unfortunately, we are yet to be even displayed across that yellow bar on Sky Sports News, which is surprising considering Redknapp’s comments that he is looking to do business early. Despite the transfer window being closed, deals still can be completed, as seen with Nikola Zigic to Birmingham, so hopefully Redknapp and Levy are trying their hardest to find that ‘special, Torres type player’, which Harry has mentioned, who will take us to the next level.

These comments though only fuel the transfer speculation surrounding the club and now every day brings a fresh story. It appears Spartak Moscow striker Peter Odemwingie is keen to test himself in the Premier League and so this news immediately sparks a story that involves a swap deal with Pavlyuchenko going the other way –make what you will out of this transfer talk but for me Levy wouldn’t be interested in that deal one bit. Another ‘target’ which has just arisen is Roma forward Julio Baptista, but again is this really the type of player Tottenham are looking at considering his poor form in the Premier League with Arsenal.

However, it is not all unrealistic news. The one ‘target’ who seems to be very high on Harry’s list is Micah Richards, a player who is versatile in defence and would appear to be available after having limited first-team opportunities at Manchester City. He wouldn’t come cheap though with a price tag of £9 million, yet Redknapp seems the perfect manager to fulfil Richards’s potential. With this deal a possible goer, the striker links are not as frequent but the most plausible ‘target’ is Wolfsburg striker Dzeko who has already been highlighted by Clive Allen as someone who the club is looking at (reference ESPN coverage of Fulham v Wolfsburg). So with the media now manipulating Allen’s comments to link us with the Bosnian and our Champions League credentials Dzeko is more than a possibility - that is until the richest club in the world open negotiations with the 24 year-old hitman and then, as speculation has it, table a bid of £36 million for him.

Anyway, his imminent arrival at Eastalnds is sure to result in us being linked with Roque Santa Cruz, Craig Bellamy and City’s other one hundred other striker’s.
