Auburn Recruiting 2010: Who is Going to Fill These Shoes?
There are 20 seniors on the Auburn roster that were ranked by recruiting services. There are five other seniors that contributed their time to make Auburn better. Two players have either transferred or left the team that were on scholarship in the last month. Both of these players were also four-star recruits.
This leaves Auburn losing 13 four-star, seven three-star, and two other players that must be replaced in the 2011 recruiting class to maintain the current level of talent at Auburn—if gauging by the star method.
While I do not believe in star gazing, I thought some of the Auburn recruitnicks that follow recruiting might enjoy this information. I have included a list of all of the seniors courtesy of Auburn University and added in their Rivals star rating for readers to see.
The question to be asked: Who is going to fill these shoes?
So far, this recruiting season the answer has been positive. It seems the commitments that are already on board will certainly be ample replacements for these fine young men. Here is a very descriptive list of the 2011 commits so far— this Auburn fan does a far better job than I of describing them.
The biggest factor Auburn fans need to remember is that 20 of the players either start or contribute regularly in games. This means there are twenty underclassmen that must step up and prepare to take over these roles this year.
While Auburn will need to bring in talent to replace these young men, the talent that will have to pick up their roles on the team is already on the roster.
As the season nears and practice starts, separating the ones that are willing to pick up these roles and learn them from the ones that are not ready yet, Auburn fans will start to see the starting team for the future.
It is a process that every team must go through. It also means that 2011 will be a rebuilding year for Auburn.
Can Auburn reload 20 players and not miss a beat? The answer to this question depends on the effort put forth by the underclassmen this year.
