Double Jointed: Is Tyrod Taylor Destined To Become the Next Vince Young?

Dustin BrownMay 29, 2010

Tyrod Taylor, current upcoming senior for Virginia Tech, is one of the most overlooked football players at the collegic level of sports.

Vince Young, current upcoming starter for the Tennessee Titans, is another overlooked player at the helm in the National League Football.

In college football, many quarterbacks simply drop back a couple steps out of the shotgun formation, then wait for the guards to open a lane, and sprint through the gap.

There's a small, rare breed of quarterbacks called "dual-threat" quarterbacks that are truly beautiful to watch expose the defense.

Dual-threat is defined as a quarterback who has the potential to be a threat in the running game as well as the passing game.

Within this breed lies two special athletes: Vince Young and Tyrod Taylor.

Vince Young, the infamous high school quarterback who was already labeled a star in his teens, can definitely be considered among the best dual-threats.

My prediction is, although the majority of fanatics disagree with me, that Taylor can shine just as bright as VY.

I'll post some videos on the comments to prove myself, but they just seem to have bonded styles.

Although Taylor, who stands at 6'1", while Young at 6'5", is smaller and faster, he still displays the same traits compared to Young.

Taylor is at a smaller school, we're all aware of that.

Young was at Texas, one of the biggest sports colleges ever. Therefore, he had better talent to work with.

Despite having moderate talent, Taylor has shown spurts of brilliance throughout his three year stint.

With Vince on the other hand, analysts have always criticized his inability to take over a game.

Young has stepped in and embraced his role this year, showing the world how a true dual-threat quarterback can take over extended drives and perform at the professional level.

Taylor has gradually displayed his ability to improve passing wise. Starting out his football career with only 927 passing yards to show, he has increased year-to-year with 1,036 and 2,311, more than doubling his best passing season in 2008 last season.

At camps, coaches have always given Taylor credit for his work ethic and footwork in the pocket. Usually if a quarterback isn't able to pass effectively, you don't hear this kind of positive reinforcement.

Also, Taylor isn't prone to turning the ball over. In 355 rushing attempts, he has never fumbled the ball. Even in 550 passes thrown, only 15 of those have been to the opposing team.

Taylor may be smaller and quicker than Young, but they both have an arm to compliment their running abilities, conservative approaches with the ball and the work ethic to improve themselves.

Can Tyrod Taylor become an NFL star similar to Vince Young?
