Rumor Zone: Arsenal Reportedly Submit Bids for Defensive Reinforcements

Arsenal just recently completed the signing of Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh on a free transfer, and Arsenal Wenger reportedly has £40m in his transfer kitty.

It's no secret that Arsenal are struggling to hold on to former skipper William Gallas, who is out of contract and will become a free agent soon.

The 32-year-old has failed to agree terms with Arsenal and could be heading out the door.

Also, Arsenal are fighting tooth and nail to keep Cesc Fabregas, who just completed his first full season as captain and also had his best-ever Premier League season for the club with 15 goals and 15 assists.

Arsenal have been linked with many players already, seeing as replacements will be imminent for Arsene Wenger's Gunners if they want to challenge for top honors next season.

Arsene Wenger made it clear at the end of the season that he was going to bolster his team's "average" defense. 

The first player is Brede Hangeland. The tall Norwegian has always been admired by Arsene Wenger since he made his debut in the Premier League with Fulham.

In 2008-09, his dominance helped Fulham finish seventh, earning them a place in Europe.

One highlight of the season was a clean sheet against Arsenal and goal in the game at Craven Cottage that season.

If recent reports are to be believed, Arsene Wenger is ready to table a £10m bid to test Fulham's reserve and their eagerness to keep the center back, who has been ever-present for Fulham, making 32 appearances in the league.

Next up is a relatively unknown center back who plays for French club Lorient in the Ligue 1.

Wenger likes the French, as almost half the squad is from France, but 24 year-old defender Laurent Koscielny is eligible to play for Poland and France, so I guess Łukasz Fabiański has a fellow countryman in the squad.

Laurent Koscielny is young, highly-rated by Arsenal manager Wenger.

Laurent recently moved clubs from Tours FC to Lorient and has flourished ever since, re-igniting Arsenal's interest in the young defender.

He has become an integral part of the squad, helping them finish seventh in the French Ligue 1.

Arsenal have also reportedly made a bid within €5 million, which was rejected, and have been asked to add some more money for smooth negotiations.

If Arsenal complete their signings, a few players could be on their way out.

Phillipe Senderos has lost his place, and Mikael Sivestre is just plain crap.

Arsenal fans just have to wait and see Wenger's moves in the transfer window, dealing with the Fabregas saga.
