NBA Memo to Orlando Fans: Nothing Magical Is Going To Happen

Tony SantorsaMay 25, 2010

As you all are well aware, on Monday the Orlando Magic defeated the Boston Celtics for the first time this series: 96-92, in OT.

Now, Orlando fans, don't get all excited and think something is actually going to happen and that the Magic will have a historic comeback, à la Flyers/Bruins.

Orlando got lucky in Game Four.

Boston came into the game having won six in a row with Rajon Rondo playing unbelievably well, but everyone knows all streaks must come to an end.

And that's what happened.

Rondo had an off night, which was his first off night this entire postseason. That's impressive. And obviously, if your starting point guard has an off night, then your team might struggle a bit too.

But Boston wasn't the only team struggling; Orlando was too.

Orlando did out-play the Celtics—in the sense that they won the game. But in reality, Orlando played a sub-par game, just like Boston.

Orlando played well in the meaningless times of the game (besides when Jameer Nelson scored those threes in OT), and played poorly in "crunch time," when Boston played the exact opposite.

During this whole series, I think I have lost count of how many free throws the Magic have missed in "crunch time." Whether it's the vastly overrated Superman himself, Dwight Howard, or Vince Carter.

Orlando just isn't a very good playoff team.

Oh, and I have completely forgotten to mention "Clutch-City," Rashard Lewis? If you visit his Twitter page, his wall reads: "Rashard Lewis is bringing Clutch City to Orlando."

Is that a joke?

Lewis should be named "Mr. Irrelevant," because he has literally done nothing this series besides play soft defense against Kevin Garnett.

Orlando has no go-to man who can take over a game in the ways Rondo, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and KG can. All Orlando has for offense is dumping the ball down in the post to Howard, and then hoping that this will open up the three-point shot.

And let me remind you, Boston has rarely been double-teaming Howard all series. Kendrick Perkins, Glen Davis, and, yes, Rasheed Wallace have been playing solid D against the so-called best center in the NBA. The man has no post moves!

Back to Game Four: The Magic had numerous chances to close out the game, but they couldn't.

They kept letting Boston creep back into the game, whether it was with missed free throws or Dwight Howard throwing up bricks in the post. Boston should have won last night on the final possession of the fourth quarter.

Orlando isn't going to get lucky four games in a row.

Also, for everyone who keeps saying, "Well, Orlando has proven they can win in Boston and that potentially two out of the next three games are home." O.K., what's your point? Boston won the first two games in Orlando.

Home court means nothing in this series.

Orlando fans, do not get your hopes up. There is no chance the Magic will pull off an unbelievable comeback. No way. Not a chance.
