Mbappé's Rollercoaster Season 🎢

Arsenal Should Let Fabregas Go, Once and For All

Mohamed Eldin MasriMay 25, 2010

In what has become one of the most boring transfer talks this season, Barcelona are still trying to attempt the capture of Cesc Fabregas, and Fabregas himself has stated that he wants to go to Barcelona.

His father also gave his opinion about the situation, and kept stating that he wants his son to leave for Spain.

Barcelona have made an offer of 30 million, but that will get them nowhere faster. They are expected to raise the price to 40 million, while Arsenal are waiting for the lucky number, 50 million.

Fabregas has been kissing the Arsenal badge, while thinking of going to Barcelona all along.

You're either in or you're out, none of us expected him to spend the rest of his career at Arsenal, but the manner in which he wanted out leaves a very bad taste in the Arsenal fan's mouth.

Stating that he wants to be at Barcelona before the World Cup, Fabregas has no right in such a thing, seeing how the choice is up to Arsenal, on when they sell him.

Also, Barcelona need to pay the correct amount of money, paying 25 million for Chegerynskky, and only 30 million for Fabregas is quite ridiculous.

How Barcelona is thinking at this moment is beyond all of us.

Paying a record sum on Ibrahimovic, who was 27 at the time, and not paying the required sum on Fabregas, who is 23 and in the form of his life isn't gonna speed up the negotiation progress at all.

Arsenal fans have been devastated by the news of their captain leaving, something that has been a tradition. Vieira and Henry did it before, and now Fabregas is most likely going to the Nou Camp.

But in all honesty, the fans shouldn't even bother, when someone doesn't want to be at a club, don't waste your time on them.

Fabregas has been a magnificent player for Arsenal throughout the years, and a good captain, despite other players in the squad deserving the armband more than him, most notably Robin van Persie (who in all honesty wasn't gonna be wearing it much this season, with his traditional injuries).

But the thought of Arsenal falling without Fabregas is simply crazy.

Perhaps Liverpool badly missed Xabi Alonso, but then again this is Arsenal, our best players left, and we were still standing strong.

The first priority for Arsenal at this moment is to make sure Barcelona pay the magic number, no less than 45 million on Fabregas, and then spend it on the required reinforcements.

Many fans have stated that without Fabregas, Arsenal will fail to win trophies, but then again they weren't exactly winning trophies with Fabregas at Arsenal.

Wenger has started the transfer window in good spirits. Marouane Chamakh is now a Gunner, looking forward to his contributions in the near future, but Arsenal need to buy more players, much more.

And also, they need to buy great players.

Perhaps Arsene Wenger never spends mad money, but he'll have to accept the fact that he needs to break the Arsenal record that he paid on Arshavin, and bring in a worthy replacement for Fabregas.

Especially when you consider the fact that Fran Merida is no longer an Arsenal player, after signing for Atletico Madrid on a free transfer.

Arsenal need to buy a couple of great defenders, and a defensive midfielder who is able to fill in for Song, should he get injured.

Also, with the news of Gael Clichy wanting to go to Barcelona (something that has been going unnoticed as of late), Arsenal need to see if they are going to need a left back.

Gibbs is worthy of Clichy's place, should he leave, but Traore has been a hit and miss.

Arsenal needs players who are loyal to the club, Cesc wanting out at the one of the most crucial periods in Arsenal's history is not exactly gonna help Arsenal and the fans at the moment.

Arsenal need more Robin van Persies, Tony Adams and Dennis Bergkamps, and less Hlebs, Flamini,  Adebayours, Ashely Coles and even Thierry Henrys.

Arsenal isn't a club where you make a name for yourself and then go to Barcelona or Madrid. It's a club that has made the "Invincibles," won numerous titles and has made history on many occasions.

This isn't exactly Valencia or Everton, but this is a team that aims for the gold in every contest possible, not a top four finish.

Granted, they haven't won in five years, but then again Barcelona did so without building a stadium.

Arsenal are finally starting to have the money, and the debts are starting to diminish, the team needs transformation, and now is the time for such a thing.

Wenger has between 35 and 45 million, ready to be spent at the right players, and Fabregas should be worth 50 million.

When you put into consideration that Arsenal are planning to buy new players, you start to see that this year. Fans won't be seeing Silvestres and Fabianskis in, but dare to dream for the likes of Gourcuff, Frey, and even Buffon has been rumored to be on the Gunner's radar on many occasions.

Arsene Wenger might want Fabregas to stay, but any player, no matter how great or beloved, any player who starts to force his way out of a club is unworthy of staying at that club, no matter how big or small that club is.

Apparently, contracts and professionalism have been dead in sports for a while now.

Wenger should sell the player, so that both parties benefit.

Fabregas would be at his childhood club, and Arsenal fans will have the pleasure of avoiding the headaches the silly Spanish media keeps posting all the time, and finally see a better captain step up and take charge of the team.

Finally, I would like to conclude this article with a page taken from my good friend Vampy Archer's book, only I'll Arsenalize it to make it fit the bill in this situation.

"Sell Fabregas and Arshavin, let Gallas out, no player is bigger than club, long live the Red and White army."
