LeBron James Should Remember the Cleveland Fans This Summer

Daniel WolfMay 23, 2010

Mike Holmgren, recently hired as president of the Browns, is no longer the biggest sports story in Cleveland. All the talk now centers around LeBron James.

Will he go?

Will he stay at home?

Vote on this poll as to where you think James goes if he does leave. Then vote on this other poll, too.

You get the idea.

Chicago, New York, New Jersey, and now Dallas are all supposedly front-runners to sign James once free agency begins.

There will most likely be a King's invite (pun intended). Teams will roll out the red carpet to lure James away from the Cavaliers if, and when, he visits these other franchises.

Everyone is focused on where James will go. But, hardly anyone is talking about James' departure from Cleveland would effect the team's fans and the city's economy.

LeBron's exist will cause the economy to flop. No one will come from out of town, and spend money, to see James play if LeBron is no longer a Cavalier.

He needs to put everything in perspective. Luckily, he seems like a very smart and mature enough guy who will do this.

James really needs to consider the fans while also deciding what is best for himself.

Granted, he is a worldwide icon, with fans everywhere. If he leaves, though, James will lose many of his most important followers.

Those are the native Cleveland fans, who only want the best for their dreadfully cursed sports teams.

Will James sleep well at night, knowing that he will be hated by many hometown fans if he leaves?

Also, does he really want to be the next name associated with the "Curse of Cleveland Sports?"

Let's hope not. Who is to say that the curse won't follow him to a new team?

Leaving Cleveland is a big risk for more reason than just the "big city" persona.

Choose wisely, James.

You really should do what's best for the fans. You have more money than most of the blue collar, Cleveland community will ever see combined.

Do you really want to lose Cleveland's loyalty?

Think about that question really hard these next few weeks, because Clevelanders are more loyal to you than other city's fans will be.

You are from Northeast Ohio, and you've become the NBA's best player in Cleveland's backyard, too.
