If USC Gets Stripped of Their 2004 Title, Is Auburn the 2004 Champion?
Larry Burton (Panama City Beach, Fla.) Rumors are just rumors, but it appears that the NCAA is going to strip USC's wins for 2004 and declare they used an ineligible player, Reggie Bush. That would strip them of their 2004 Championship as well.
Bush will be finally dubbed what many of knew all along, he was a cheat and a liar, as was USC. Unlike some schools who admitted their transgressions, USC stonewalled, lied and conveniently "couldn't recall" much of what happened.
When an Alabama player took less than 400 dollars on a New Orleans post Sugar Bowl night, the NCAA threw the hammer at him.
Bush takes hundreds of thousands of dollars and Alabama is waiting to see what NCAA justice is all about. The beginning of that justice is to strip ALL wins Bush participated in for at least 2004.
If that happens, is Auburn the new 2004 BCS Champion? That picture was taken at the 2004 SEC Championship Game and it is fitting as this would be a very late Christmas present to those fans, coaches and players at Auburn.
Oklahoma played USC in the championship game and was completely slaughtered in such a fashion that Reggie Bush made no difference in the eventual outcome of that game, so they don't have a legitimate argument.
But does Auburn?
They finished undefeated and untied and now had the best record that year. This could be a precedent setting argument and one that could change history in more than just the record books.
The NCAA has gone back and allowed some transgressions to be fixed in the past.
Kentucky was finally given a share of the national title years after Coach Bryant left there. So do they now declare Auburn the new 2004 national champs?
Does Auburn bring back those players and give them the long overdue rings?
Does USC have to open the trophy case and give back the trophy?
These are all interesting questions that will keep the off season interesting.
In my opinion, Auburn deserves the title and the trophy and I would like to see justice served finally.
