Should Wenger Blood Wojciech Szczesny Rather Than Buy A New Keeper?

Callum D'SouzaMay 17, 2010

With Arsenal finishing the recent season trophy-less, manager Arsene Wenger has vowed to implement changes to his youthful squad in hopes to finally resurrect Arsenal trophy woes.

One of the main reasons fans and critics alike believe Arsenal failed to capture any silverware was due to the lack of quality in the keeping department. Arsenal first choice Manuel Almunia and deputy Lukasz Fabianski showed they are incapable of performing at the highest level.

The pair made a host of errors between them throughout 2009/2010, especially in crucial games. This indecency has occurred for a few years now and Wenger has finally hinted he will buy.

But if Wenger struggles to attract a quality keeper, would the Frenchman be better off blooding in hugely talented keeper Wojciech Szczesny.

Szczensy made his Arsenal début in the League Cup during 2009/2010 before being loaned out to Brentford for the rest of the campaign. The Polish shot-stopper performed sensationally whilst in League One, acquiring many admirers including Arsene Wenger.

At 20, Szczensy is still very young and tender but has already proven he is a strong, capable keeper who could do no worse the Almunia and Fabianski. The Polish international is a tall and imposing keeper with great reflexes and hands.

One area which the keepers failed in last season was the lack of decision making off set pieces and corners. However Szczensy is much better adapted in that department.

There is also talented Italian youngster, Vito Mannone, who is also easily capable of stepping up and performing, but he may be required to depart on loan to somewhere in the Premier League.

So should Wenger try Wojciech Szczesny rather than buy A new keeper?
