2010 World Cup: Brian Jensen Loses Out as Denmark Boss Morten Olsen Picks His 30

...May 11, 2010

Thomas Sørensen's injury and his potential replacements was unsurprisingly the topic of the day. As expected the pundits, bookies and the general public all had a go at predicting the squad and the majority had the man they call "the beast" down as a shoe in but as the saying goes, sometimes everyone is wrong.

Brian Jensen didn't make the 30 man provisional squad and while Sørensen's injury status is still unclear, Olsen put his faith in domestic talent.

Brøndby's Stephan Andersen, FC Copenhagen's Jesper Christiansen, and IFK Göteborg's Kim Christensen were the three 'keepers that got the nod. Depending on Sorensen's injury, one of them will drop out when Olsen picks his 23.

Jensen's horrid season didn't go unnoticed. His Burnley side conceded 82 goals on their way to relegation and while some will point to the inept defenders in front of him, those stats certainly didn't do him any favors.

In other areas, Malaga defender Patrick Mtiliga also made the cut. Despite watching Leon Jessen, Michael Jakobsen, and Michael Lumb fight it out, for best part of the last 24 months, for the left back spot, Olsen chose to ignore them all and go with Mtiliga, who only has a sole cap to his name.

AZ Alkmaar's Simon Poulsen also made a late surge into the squad after a fine season in the Dutch league.

The rest of the squad pretty much picked itself with the likes of Simon Kjær, Daniel Agger, Jon Dahl Tomasson, and Nicklas Bendtner expected to lead the side and stamp their authority on the tournament.
