Gareth Bale and Luka Modric Off to Manchester United?

Zaakir HoosenMay 11, 2010

As the "speculation season" begins, all sort of names are thrown about, linking them with top European clubs.

No different is the link between Spurs duo Bale and Modric who have been huge contributors to the Londoners ending up in fourth place.

But if the rumors are true, and Sir Alex is looking to make bids of them, will they fit into the squad? That's the basic question...

Bale is estimated to be valued at around 20 million pounds, while Modric is valued at 25 million, based on the experience and performance of course. But firstly, will Fergie look to spend so much on players who provide more of an assistance role rather than finishing? Yes, agreed Bale pops the odd one in, but that's not his role.

It's quite clear United need strikers, players who will find the net more often than not. Rooney might be wonderful and so much has been said about him recently, but depending on one player could be the reason United finished second.

Gareth Bale's primary position is a left-winger/left-back, so why will we look to bring in someone in that position when we have Evra, who is one of the best in world in that position? Also there is sufficient cover for Evra: there's Fabio, who's still young and has great potential, and O'Shea, who's able to fill in if necessary.

What we need to understand is that when you prepared to pay 20 odd million for a defensive player you need to use him more than you would with an attacker. In terms of getting value for your money.

So enough said about Gareth Bale, his brilliant and has proved that this season, but as far as for United, his not exactly what we looking for.

On the other hand, Luka Modric would be everything United need. In the last season the central midfield has been our downfall, apart from Scholes no other player has stepped up and shown any promise.

Carrick has been really average, Gibson who played a number of games is still young and his inexperience was evident, Fletcher was good but his a similar player to Scholes so it was either one or the other. Anderson and Hargreaves on the injury list just added to the midfield woes.

Modric brings a different dimension to the team, he's got quick feet, uses his skill intelligently, and has a great shot. He's also very aware of his wingers positions, very similar to Scholes.

Also, having Modric alongside the likes of Nani and Valencia would bring more balance to the squad, then playing Carrick as a more defensive midfielder sounds as a better option.

But also consider that Modric is valued at around 25 million, taking into account Spurs will be looking at securing these players since they now look their European challenge.

And if they willing to sell, it's not going to be easy to get him for anything less and they will want that money to bring in more quality.

So my argument is, Bale is a total "no-no" because Evra is good enough, Modric should be considered since he will bring something to the team.

Many feel David Silva is a better option, and I agree as he has international exposure playing for Spain alongside great players. But think about Modric, who has already been tried and tested in the English game, which counts for a lot.

Remember United already signed Chris Smalling (defender), Mama Biram Diouf (forward), and Javier Hernandez (forward) .
