Auburn Football Recruiting 2010: Tigers Get Another Commit, Plus Update

Kevin McGradyMay 10, 2010

The 2011 Auburn recruiting class just got a lot better today.   6’5” 280 pound Defensive Tackle Angelo Blackson out of Delaware has verbally committed to Auburn University to play football. He was also being recruited by Syracuse to play basketball.

I can only imagine how athletic a 6’5” 280 pound Defensive Tackle would have to be to get the attention of the elite Syracuse basketball program. I imagine one can assume he can run and jump. He has not been evaluated by any recruiting service at this point.

You can see his Rivals profile here. He came from a school that is not accustomed to promoting their athletes for national recruiting purposes. He averaged 20 points per game for his high school basketball teams as a junior.

Here is the only picture I could find of him.   He is big, he is fast, he can jump, and he is all Auburn. He said he would not be taking further visits and his commit was solid. He can also play defensive end.

In every interview he has given he has presented himself as the very kind of person that will fit in with the Auburn Family. We in the Auburn family look forward to watching this young man grow in education and football. Please, no one tell Coach Barbee, we want this young man on the football field!

Here is a current list of Auburn verbal commits and their rating. It looks as if ESPN has initially rated this young man in their top 150 in the nation. Auburn fans should not consider Spencer Region a commit at this point in my opinion, even if he is on this list.

It seems that he has been ranked in the nation at his position on the ESPN 2010 watch list.  I guess the Auburn staff did another excellent job of evaluating talent.

Some have been wondering about some of the players Auburn is pursuing for this 2011 class. In the following paragraphs I will list some of the prospects that I think Auburn has a really good shot at, and others that Auburn is recruiting hard.

Following is a list of recruits that I believe Auburn has a chance at signing.

Brey Cook This young man has a list of offers from many top schools. I think it will come down to Arkansas and Auburn. He has a sister enrolled at Arkansas I believe and this could give them an edge.

Kris Frost : A multi talented athlete that Auburn has a very good shot at. He is a North Carolina native and that could be largest obstacle for Auburn to overcome.

Keymiya Harrell : A defensive end that I believe Auburn has a really good chance at. He is an Alabama native and has an offer from Auburn.

Keihl Frazier : A very talented quarterback that is a native of Arkansas. It is reported he will visit Auburn this weekend. I think Auburn has a really good chance to sign him this year.

Gabe Wright : A defensive tackle out of Columbus Ga., he is being recruited heavily by several schools, but I think Auburn has as good of a chance as any.

Jabrian Niles : Another Alabama native that has offers from several major schools. Auburn has a chance with him as well.

Following are players I think Auburn might have an edge at signing.

Jamar Lewter : A 6’8” offensive tackle, he is from Washington DC and I think Auburn has a very good chance with him.

Enrique Florence : A safety from Valley, Alabama and Auburn is on his list of favorites.

Jonathan Rose : A cornerback from Leeds, Alabama that also has Auburn on his list of favorites.

Chris Jones : A safety and another Alabama native that has Auburn high on his list.
