Bundesliga Week 34 Short Previews

Hertha Berlin vs Bayern Munchen

Bayern Munich have the Bundesliga in the bag and this match is little more than a formality. The gap in goals between Bayern and Schalke is so vast, there is pretty much no way short of a miracle that Schalke could claim the title and a draw would make it mathematically certain that Bayern would be champions.

Berlin on the other hand are in the opposite position, they are relegated although a victory against Bayern would go a long way to boosting the teams moral for the next season. Both sides will be eager to end the season on a high note, although Bayern are by far the strong favorites for obvious reasons.

Monchengladbach vs Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen have slipped up, and they’ve done so catastrophically. They have gone from a possibly title-winning position to a dogfight for Champions League qualification which could possibly see them drop out of the top four.

This turn of events displays just exactly how bad Leverkusen have been recently. Although on paper they are an undoubtedly better side that Gladbach with the poor performances that Leverkusen have been producing it would be rather presumptuous to suggest that they were going to win this match without any difficulties.

Werder Bremen vs Hamburg

Werder Bremen have managed to take advantage of Bayer Leverkusen’s awful form and have moved into third spot. They have the chance to secure that position and with the odds on Leverkusen beating Gladbach it is vital that Werder Bremen gain some points here so they don’t leave anything to chance.

Hamburg’s away form has been very up and down; despite this it seems fairly likely that Bremen won’t have too much trouble in beating Hamburg.

Mainz vs Schalke

Schalke need nothing short of a miracle to catch Bayern Munich. Even if they win Bayern are ahead of them by seventeen goals. So with Schalke rooted to second place this match is not particularly important in any way.

It is always good to end the season on a high note and the team are by no means likely to shut down, but we could see several usually benched players get a bit of match time and the match should have a fairly relaxed atmosphere. Mainz are not particularly bad at home, but they don’t look anywhere near in the same class as Schalke.

Freiburg vs Dortmund

Dortmund actually have a very real chance of finishing in the top four. If Leverkusen slip up just once more Dortmund could potentially move to fourth. Freiburg shouldn’t be too much of a challenge for Dortmund even if their away form isn’t particularly great.

Freiburg have been pretty poor at home having lost twice as many as they have won. Freiburg have secured safety and due to that the side has absolutely nothing to play for so it is quite possible that we will see a lacklustre performance on their part as we so often do at this point in the season.
