What Should LBJ Do Next? 👑

The Fives - March 31st, 2010

Jay McAnanyMar 31, 2010
Five observations from Tuesday in sports…

1.    I spent some time thinking about it and I really can’t think of a more dominant sports team than the Connecticut women’s basketball team.   Unless they beat themselves, they’re not going to lose for a while.

2.    When did the Oregon athletic program turn into the Washington Redskins?   Just try to throw a bunch of money to get a high-profile coach to coach the basketball team in a new arena.  If they’re smart, the coach they should go after on Monday is the one who can drive his own car to the Final Four…Brad Stevens of Butler.

3.    With what happened in his last job, I can say I’m genuinely surprised that Tim Floyd got another college job so quickly.  Anyone have an over/under for college jobs in Tim Floyd’s career?  I’m going with 10. (UTEP is his 5th.)

4.    English hearts are probably skipping a beat waiting to hear about Wayne Rooney’s ankle.  After a stellar qualifying campaign, things are going downhill for The Three Lions at the wrong time(John Terry, David Beckham, and Rooney).

5.    Not really all that surprised the North Carolina got the non-call at the end overtime last night.  What little TV audience the NIT was hoping for would have disappeared if they had basically an A-10 regular season game for the title.

Five top performances from Tuesday…

1.    Tina Charles, Connecticut F:   20 pts, 14 rebs in UCONN’s 90-50 win over FSU

2.    Jonathan Bernier, Kings G:    34 svs and a shutout in a big 2-0 win for LA over NAS

3.    Danny Granger, Pacers F:   33 pts, 5 reb, 4ast in IND’s 102-95 win over SAC

4.    Jason Spezza, Senators C:   2 G, 2 A in OTT’s playoff-spot clinching 5-4 win over WAS

5.    Chris Johnson, Dayton G-F:  22 pts, 20 rebs, 4 stls in Dayton’s 68-63 NIT semis win over MISS

Five games to watch on Wednesday…

1.    NBA:     Lakers at Hawks, 7:00 pm

2.    NBA:     Thunder at Celtics, 7:30 pm

3.    UEFA Champions League:     Arsenal vs. Barcelona, 2:45 pm

4.    NHL:     Coyotes at Flames, 9:30 pm

5.    CBI Championship Game 2:     Virginia Commonwealth at Saint Louis, 8:00 pm
