Top Eagles Trade Targets Entering 2022 Offseason
The Philadelphia Eagles walk into the 2022 NFL offseason in a great position to succeed thanks to an abundance of salary-cap space and draft picks.
According to Over The Cap, the Eagles have $21.5 million in cap space before even going through the cuts and restructures that will inevitably save money. They also have five draft picks across the first two days of the event.
Those resources can be used in the traditional way. The Eagles could sign some key free agents while adding rookies through the draft. But they have a total of 10 picks, which is a big draft class, and there are often better fits on the trade block than what is available in free agency. So a trade shouldn't be ruled out.
These three players would make sense if the price is right.
WR Jarvis Landry

The Eagles' receiver room is exciting but incredibly young.
DeVonta Smith put up a strong rookie season. Quez Watkins was a breakout player in Nick Sirianni's first year at the helm. Jalen Reagor is on his last chance, but there's still an opportunity for him to turn things around.
Then there's the possibility of adding another piece with one of the picks the Eagles have in the first two days of the draft.
It's great to start stockpiling young pass-catches to pair with quarterback Jalen Hurts, but it's also important to get a veteran who can be a guiding voice in the locker room.
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry fits that bill. The experienced 29-year-old plays hard and can still provide a reliable target, even if his numbers have dropped off a bit.
For Cleveland, it might be time to move on. He is scheduled to cost the team $16.5 million in 2022, but with just $1.5 million guaranteed, he's a prime candidate to get a reworked deal.
With the passing game going stale in Cleveland, both sides may be ready to move on. Rather than outright cut him, the Browns would likely be happy to get a Day 3 pick in return. The Eagles can afford to make that happen.
LB Bobby Wagner

Here's another example of the Eagles looking for some veteran leadership. Linebacker Bobby Wagner is hitting the final stretch of his career at 31, but he was still productive in 2021 with a career-high 170 tackles.
The problem for Seattle is that Wagner is set to cost them $20.4 million next season. They may not want to shell out that kind of cash after a 7-10 season in the brutal NFC West.
The Eagles, on the other hand, are coming off a 9-8 season, and a slight improvement on defense could be the difference between making the playoffs and sitting at home during the postseason.
Trading Wagner would save the Seahawks $16.6 million, which would be charged to the Eagles. If they could work out an extension with him, they could get that number even lower.
Wagner may not be what he used to be, but he's an upgrade on Genard Avery and Alex Singleton.
Again, Wagner could be a cap casualty even without a trade, so this might not take as much draft capital to make happen as one might think. A Day 3 pick could get it done.
WR Calvin Ridley

If the Eagles turn to the trade market to make a big splash, wide receiver Calvin Ridley would be the biggest name they could bring in outside of a quarterback.
The Atlanta Falcons receiver chose to step away from football to work on his mental wellbeing last season. Ridley's time away from the team opens up speculation that he might be a trade candidate. He popped up on a recent ESPN list highlighting some under-the-radar trade candidates.
Getting him to Philadelphia would obviously be a coup. Before taking time away, he was putting up big numbers. He followed up a 90-catch 1,374-yard season in 2020 with 31 catches for 281 yards and two touchdowns in five games in 2021.
Reuniting with former Alabama teammates Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith might be an appealing situation for the receiver. The Falcons should be inclined to favor the Eagles in trade talks since they have three first-rounders. It might take one of them to get Ridley.
Considering what a receiving corps featuring Ridley, Smith and Watkins could do for Hurts or another quarterback, it would be worth the investment.
