Idaho Potato Bowl 2020: Odds, Daily Fantasy Tips for Tulane vs. Nevada

Joe TanseyDec 21, 2020

The Tulane Green Wave and Nevada Wolfpack had two different types of six-win seasons before landing in the Idaho Potato Bowl.

Tulane started its season in September and used four wins in its final five games to confirm its third straight record of .500 or better under Willie Fritz.

Nevada began its Mountain West Conference campaign a month-and-a-half later than Tulane's start, and it reeled off five straight wins behind quarterback Carson Strong.

The Wolfpack dropped out of Mountain West title contention with losses in two of their last three contests, which resulted in their second consecutive Idaho Potato Bowl appearance.

Despite entering in worse form than Tulane, Nevada has the best talent on the field in Strong and wide receiver Romeo Doubs and could win in Boise, Idaho, on Tuesday as the underdog.

Daily Fantasy Tips

Stack Carson Strong and Romeo Doubs

Strong and Doubs form the best quarterback-wide receiver combination of the two Idaho Potato Bowl participants.

Strong finished the regular season with 22 touchdown passes and four interceptions. Doubs caught nine of those scoring throws and came 48 yards short of a 1,000-yard season.

Doubs started the season with five consecutive 100-yard games, and he completed the regular season with a nine-catch, 75-yard outing versus the San Jose State Spartans, who won the Mountain West crown.

The junior wideout is one of the most explosive deep threats in the Group of Five, as his longest catch in four games was over 50 yards.

Strong has a few other reliable targets in tight end Cole Turner and wide receivers Melquan Stovall and Justin Lockhart, all of whom have more than 25 receptions.

However, Doubs is the best player to pair with Strong because of his deep threat ability and his team lead in receiving categories.

Run With Tulane's Running Backs

Tulane's running back tandem of Stephon Huderson and Cameron Carroll have better overall numbers because of the three-game advantage the Green Wave have over the Wolfpack in games played.

Huderson and Carroll both had over 100 rushing attempts, and they were responsible for 1,342 of Tulane's 2,408 team rushing yards.

The American Athletic Conference team averages over 100 more rushing yards per game than Nevada, so Huderson and Carroll are the better daily fantasy options at running back than the Wolfpack's Toa Taua.

In seven of the last nine Tulane games, Huderson or Carroll was the team's leading rusher. Amare Jones earned that honor in the other two contests, and he recently announced his transfer away from the program.

If you combine Tulane's top two runners and Nevada's best passing combination in the same lineup, you should achieve plenty of DFS success on Tuesday afternoon.
