Cristiano Ronaldo to Produce Drama Series for Facebook About HS Soccer Team
Cristiano Ronaldo is set to produce a scripted drama series for on-demand video service Facebook Watch, centred around a girls' high school football team.
According to Variety's Christi Carras, Ronaldo and television executive Paul Lee's new studio, wiip, will partner to create the series.
"The story of my life has many similarities with the highs and lows the girls' varsity soccer team will face in the series," Ronaldo said. "While the series is set against the background of soccer, it goes much deeper than just the beautiful game. It's about values, challenges, friendship, difficult times, hard work, solidarity, tensions, and harmony. In a word—it’s about life."

The series will be set in upstate New York and focus on the team's ability to inspire the "local community to transcend the racial, ethnic and class differences that divide it," as well as the personal lives of the players off the pitch.
Joshua Harto and Liz Garcia—the creators of cop drama Memphis Beat—will serve as executive producers on the series, which will be wiip's second project with Facebook Watch after Queen America, starring Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Lee said of the show: "This is a high-end series with global appeal, set against the backdrop of the world's most popular sport, and created in partnership with the world's best footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, and remarkable storytellers Liz and Josh."
The news coincides with the announcement of Ronaldo's animated superhero cartoon, Striker Force 7.
Ronaldo recently discussed his ambition to try his hand at the movie industry upon his retirement from football, so the two series could be a sign of things to come from the Madrid star.
The projects are not the 33-year-old's first dabble into the visual medium—he released his eponymous documentary film Ronaldo in 2015—although it appears he will now be more involved behind the scenes.
