Focus on Midweek

Los Blancos came into this match with little left to play for in La Liga, as Barcelona have all but wrapped up the title. It showed in Zinedine Zidane's team selection, as shared by Robbie Dunne of AS English:

He wasn't the only one to make a ton of changes, as upcoming opponents Bayern Munich took a similar approach in Germany:

The two teams will meet again in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

Bale on the Board

Saturday's match was a great opportunity for Bale to prove himself to Zidane and the fans, and he didn't disappoint. Less than 10 minutes into the contest, the Welshman took a deflected effort from Karim Benzema and volleyed the ball in between the legs of Ivan Cuellar.

While replays suggested he might have been offside, Bale didn't care. As shared by TV presenter Phil Kitromilides, his domestic scoring record remains solid:

Brave Leganes No Match for Real

Leganes put up a solid fight in the first half, mustering a handful of good chances and keeping goalkeeper Kiko Casilla busy. Nordin Amrabat went closest to giving his team a deserved equaliser, but his effort found the crossbar, rather than the back of the net.

Their resilience was admirable, but just before half-time, Real's efficiency showed, as Mayoral converted a great cross from Mateo Kovacic to double the lead.

As shared by Goal's Ben Hayward, there was some confusion regarding the goal, which was initially ruled out for offside:

Defensive Miscues for Los Blancos

The many changes made to the starting XI were always likely to lead to mistakes, and Brasanac's second-half goal was a prime example.

No one picked up his run, and according to ESPN FC's Dermot Corrigan, full-back Achraf Hakimi was particularly at fault:

Real made more mistakes after the goal but were able to limit the damage, with Casilla putting in a great shift.
