Premier League Fixtures: Week 34 Schedule, Score Predictions for EPL Matchday

Christopher SimpsonApr 9, 2018

Manchester City can win the Premier League title at the second attempt if they beat Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium on Saturday and Manchester United lose to West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

Victory against Spurs and a West Brom win would put City 16 points ahead of United with five matches remaining, while the Sky Blues' vastly superior goal difference all but assures them of the title if they win and United only manage a draw.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United will hope to continue their impressive march toward safety at home to Arsenal.

Liverpool host Bournemouth, with the Cherries attempting to do the same, while Southampton could climb to within one point of safety if they beat Chelsea and Crystal Palace lose to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Huddersfield Town's survival bid sees them take on Watford, and Swansea City play Everton. West Ham United face Stoke City on Monday, with the two sides also battling against the drop.

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester City

After losing 3-0 to Liverpool in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie and blowing the chance to win the Premier League against local rivals United by letting slip a 2-0 half-time lead on Saturday, the pressure is on City to get their campaign back on track.

While the title is almost certainly theirs whatever happens in this match, Pep Guardiola's men will be eager to get back to winning ways in the Premier League.

To do so, they would need to either shrug off the disappointment of exiting the Champions League on Tuesday or capitalise on the jubilation of progressing depending on how they fare against the Reds in the second leg.

As Goal's Sam Lee noted, it does not bode well for City ahead of the clash after they lost 3-2 to United:

If they don't go through, beating Spurs would be particularly important for them to get over a difficult spell.

It won't be easy to beat Tottenham at Wembley, though, as they have only lost once there in the league all season, and that was in their first home match, against Chelsea.

What's more, Christian Eriksen is in exceptional form and grabbed a brace against Stoke City last time out. Squawka Football noted his impressive efforts in front of goal, while football writer Ryan Baldi sang his praises:

The Denmark international not only offers a valuable goal threat, but arguably only City playmakers Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva also boast his ability to control matches and create chances for team-mates in the Premier League.

He could help Spurs cause City plenty of problems on Saturday, but the visitors—even if they are struggling—are 17 points ahead of them for a reason, and they are certainly capable of getting at least a point out of the match.

Newcastle United vs. Arsenal

Newcastle United have spent much of the campaign fighting for survival, but an impressive run of three consecutive wins has propelled them into the top half of the table, and they are now just three points behind ninth-place Everton with a game in hand.

The promoted side, who are 10 points clear of the drop zone, would surpass 40 points with a win over Arsenal, which would be an excellent achievement for a side that does not boast a great deal of Premier League quality in its ranks.

Manager Rafael Benitez is not getting carried away, with safety not yet mathematically assured, but the Chronicle's Mark Douglas believes Newcastle will avoid relegation:

The Magpies also boast a better defensive record than Arsenal, having shipped two fewer goals, and the Gunners have only won three away games in the league all season. Therefore, Newcastle have a strong chance of getting another positive result.

Their defence will be put to the test by an in-form Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, though, per James Benge of the Evening Standard:

Although some of his team-mates will have just returned from a trip to Russia in the UEFA Europa League, Aubameyang should be fresh for the match because he is ineligible for that competition.

His form makes him a significant threat to the Magpies, but the hosts still have a good chance of picking up at least a point from the match.
