Champions League 2018: Quarter-Finals Leg 1 Live Stream, Schedule, Predictions

James DudkoApr 1, 2018

Juventus against Real Madrid is the highlight tie of the 2018 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, while the all-Premier League encounter between Liverpool and Manchester City is equally tough to call.

Holders Real face the daunting challenge of getting a result in Turin in the first leg on Tuesday. As for Liverpool, the Reds will hope Anfield again proves an intimidating venue for the Citizens on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, both Bayern Munich and Barcelona will be expected to build first-leg leads against Sevilla and AS Roma, respectively.

Revenge should be on the minds of last season's runners-up, Juve, who were hammered 4-1 by a Real side typically inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo in the final last June.

Ronaldo scored twice as Los Blancos gained some payback of their own in Cardiff after the Bianconeri knocked them out at the semi-final stage in 2015.

Ronaldo dented Juve's hopes last year.

Both teams earned creditable wins to reach the last eight this year. For Juve, progress came after beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Wembley Stadium in the second leg of the last 16.

Real also won 2-1 in their round-of-16 second leg, seeing off the much-fancied Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes.

This is Real's tournament, and the winners of the trophy in three of the past four years still have enough power in attacking areas to pinch a vital away goal at the Allianz Stadium.

Bayern will be wary of Sevilla after they sent Manchester United crashing out in the previous round. Wissam Ben Yedder scored twice at Old Trafford, but Sevilla lack the firepower to make the same impact against a Bayern squad loaded in every area.

Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller and Arjen Robben give Die Roten the cutting edge to rival any squad left in the tournament. Yet it's in midfield where Jupp Heynckes' squad is strongest thanks to Corentin Tolisso and workhorse Arturo Vidal.

Bayern's powerful forward line will be too much for Sevilla.

Bayern have the strength, craft and pace in the final third to boss this game on away soil and score more than once before the second leg.

Goals won't be in short supply when Liverpool and City meet for the third time this season. City won 5-0 in Manchester back in September, while Liverpool were 4-3 victors on Merseyside in January.

Each team features an enviable amount of match-winners in attacking areas. The focus will be on free-scoring Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah, who notched another landmark goal by netting the winner at Crystal Palace on Saturday, per Squawka Football:

Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino devastated City at Anfield. Yet the Citizens have few equals when it comes to unleashing pace and movement in the final third.

Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane are deadly from wide areas thanks, in no small part, to the consistent supply from playmakers Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva.

There's too much attacking talent set to be involved not to expect another goal-fest between these two. However, it's City who will be the happier once the first leg is in the books.

Barcelona have to be favoured as long as Lionel Messi is fit and firing. The dynamic No. 10 broke the 100-goal barrier in this tournament after bagging a brace during the second leg against Chelsea in the previous round.

Messi has also been hitting his stride domestically, according to the competition's official Twitter feed:

With Messi, Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele available, Barca deserve to be heavy favourites, even against a Roma squad with notable resources of its own.

The Giallorossi lean on Edin Dzeko up front, while Cengiz Under adds flair in support.

Even so, the Blaugrana will be strong enough at the Camp Nou to join Bayern as the big winners ahead of the second-leg ties, which begin on April 10.
