Marsonia striker Bruno Boban has died after collapsing during a match against Slavonija Pozega when he was "hit in the chest with the ball from close range," per Hayley Coyle of the Daily Star Sunday.
Croatian footballer Boban was 25.
Coyle reported how Boban was struck by the ball after 15 minutes of the Croatian third division game at the Gradski Stadion uz Savu, but attempted to carry on playing. Soon after though, the striker collapsed and was attended to by medics, who tried for 40 minutes to help him regain consciousness.
Those efforts proved unsuccessful, and Boban was pronounced dead on the pitch, although the cause of his death is still to be confirmed.
Back in 2014, Boban posted a picture on Instagram of himself in a hospital bed, with a caption reading "operation performed successfully," according to TalkSport.com.
Earlier this month, 31-year-old Fiorentina skipper Davide Astori was found dead in his hotel room prior to a Serie A match against Udinese.
