Tours Defender Thomas Rodriguez Found Dead at Age 18

Tours 18-year-old defender Thomas Rodriguez has been found dead, it was announced Friday.

The French club released the news in a statement and confirmed their Ligue 2 clash with Valenciennes that was scheduled for Friday has been postponed, per Goal's Harry Sherlock.

The statement read:

"It is with extreme pain that Tours FC informs you of the passing of the young Thomas Rodriguez, a resident of the Formation Center, who died on the night of Thursday 8 to Friday, March 9, 2018. Tours FC is shattered by this tragedy, which plunges the Club into an immense sadness.

"The club extends its deepest condolences to the family, loved ones, all of Thomas's team-mates and friends and gives them all their support in these difficult times. Rest in peace, Thomas."

French football's governing body confirmed that a minute's silence will be held before all Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 games this weekend, per Sherlock.

No details were provided as to the cause of Rodriguez's death.

Per the Associated Press' Daniella Matar, it comes less than a week on from the shock death of Fiorentina captain Davide Astori at the age of 31:
