Sunday Recap

Liverpool made the perfect start at Southampton as Roberto Firmino opened the scoring after just six minutes. A quick move saw Wesley Hoedt fail to cut out a ball from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, allowing Mohamed Salah to nudge the ball across to Firmino to fire home.

Firmino then returned the favour just before half-time as he produced a brilliant backheel to send Salah through to sweep the ball past goalkeeper Alex McCarthy. Goal's Melissa Reddy showed how prolific the duo have been this season:

Liverpool's victory has put pressure on Manchester United, who were below-par at Newcastle United. The hosts started well with Jonjo Shelvey forcing David De Gea into a good early save with a strong shot. Newcastle were also denied a penalty after Chris Smalling brought down Dwight Gayle late in the first half.

Rafael Benitez's side then took the lead as the visitors failed to clear a Shelvey free kick into the box, and it eventually fell to an unmarked Matt Ritchie to run onto and send past De Gea.

Samuel Luckhurst at the Manchester Evening News was not impressed with Smalling's contribution:

Mourinho's side did have chances, with Alexis Sanchez wasting a good opportunity after rounding goalkeeper Martin Dubravka but then delaying his shot, which allowed Florian Lejeune to get back and block.

Anthony Martial had two shots blocked on the line before substitute Michael Carrick was denied in stoppage time by Dubravka, who enjoyed a fine debut in the Newcastle goal. It was a big win for Newcastle, which will give them real hope of survival, while Mourinho's men are in need of improvement.

Huddersfield moved out of the bottom three with a thumping 4-1 win over Bournemouth at the John Smith's Stadium. The victory ended a run of five straight defeats for the Terriers as they were rewarded for an attacking approach.

The hosts got off to a great start as Steve Mounie crossed for Alex Pritchard to stab home his first goal for the club after just seven minutes. Although Junior Stanislas equalised for Bournemouth on 13 minutes, a Mounie header restored the hosts' lead just shy of the half-hour mark.

BT Sport's Jake Humphrey explained Huddersfield's success:

Huddersfield then made the points safe as Mounie applied a good first-time finish to Aaron Mooy's cross, the ball taking a nick off defender Steve Cook on its way into the back of the net. A stoppage time from penalty from Rajiv Van la Parr added some gloss to the scoreline and completed a deserved win.

It's a much-needed win for Huddersfield and means just 11 points separate bottom side West Bromwich Albion from Bournemouth in 10th place.
