Aguero Exploits Magpies Flaws
Aguero was at his predatory best as City dismantled Newcastle in one-sided fashion, picking apart the Magpies in a match where the Etihad hosts should have won by more after registering 21 shots on goal, per WhoScored.com.
City accounted for more than 80 per cent of possession and took 1,015 touches to Newcastle's 393, responding to last Sunday's 4-3 defeat to Liverpool as they'd hope.
Squawka put the City frontman's man-of-the-match performance into numbers, while youngster Oleksandar Zinchenko also impressed again at left-back:
Kevin De Bruyne curled in for Aguero to open the scoring before Javier Manquillo fouled in the box to gift the Argentinian a second from the spot, and Leroy Sane embarked on a sublime run to tee up his hat-trick finish.
Jacob Murphy finished coolly one-on-one at 2-1 down, but Newcastle were ultimately the unfortunate victims of a City side looking to hit back from their first defeat of the season, downing Rafa Benitez's men in unforgiving style.
Jamie Vardy Breakthrough at Watford
After suffering from an almost inevitable drop-off in scoring last season, Jamie Vardy is on a trajectory to eclipse his 2016-17 goal tally after he netted his 10th of the Premier League campaign against Watford on Saturday.
The England international converted from the spot after Watford centre-back Molla Wague was adjudged to have committed a foul in the area, with Vardy improving a sensationally accurate record this term, per Match of the Day:
The Leicester frontman's quick feet have proved useful over long distances, but OptaJoe showed how they pose an advantage in tighter spots, too:
Riyad Mahrez settled the scoreline with a late addition near game's end, but Vardy's fourth goal in seven games gave the Foxes room to breathe heading in at half-time.
Leicester remain eight points off sixth-placed Arsenal, but Vardy's confidence in front of goal could yet see Claude Puel's men launch a late claim on European qualification.
Monreal's Moment, Lacazette Relief
Alexandre Lacazette may not have dreamed he'd end a nine-game scoring drought as a cameo in a game where Nacho Monreal contributed a man-of-the-match show in a 30-minute display, but a goal's a goal as far as he'll be concerned.
Monreal returned to his roots at left-back against Palace and lit up the Emirates with a goal and two assists in the opening 13 minutes before he was forced off with what appeared to be a hamstring complaint, per Match of the Day:
Lacazette finished off a sublimely worked team goal, set up with a lovely final touch from Mesut Ozil, ending his run of eight Premier League matches without a goal:
The former Lyon hitman now has nine league goals for the season and might have found that number would be higher had manager Arsene Wenger handed him a looser rein earlier on in his maiden England campaign.
Gunners will hope Monreal isn't absent for long and can return to keep offering such a major contribution in attack, while the north Londoners pray their French forward will be able to kick on after Saturday's strike.
