Report: Tarik Black Was Player at Clippers Locker Room Doorway, Not Clint Capela

Rob GoldbergJan 17, 2018

Details continue to unfold following the bizarre drama Monday night between the Los Angeles Clippers and Houston Rockets.

As Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN originally reported, Rockets center Clint Capela apparently approached the Clippers locker room after the game while Chris Paul, Trevor Ariza and James Harden came in through a back corridor.

However, Marc Stein of the New York Times reported Wednesday that Tarik Black was actually the man at the front door that night, and his presence wasn't meant to be a diversion for the other players.

The initial report stated that the person who knocked on the front door was not allowed into the opposing locker room anyway and left shortly after. Stein also reported that DeAndre Jordan was closest to the door when the Rockets entered LA's locker room and was key in keeping the situation from escalating.

Both Ariza and Harden said that the reports around the incident were not accurate, per Ben DuBose of Sports Talk 790 in Houston:

Paul called some of the reports 'real funny:'

The entire confrontation came after the Clippers 113-102 victory over Houston, a game that featured a lot of chippy play, trash talk and more. There were five technical fouls enforced while Ariza and Blake Griffin were both ejected before the game ended.

Harden and Austin Rivers didn't even play but were heavily involved in the back-and-forth drama.

Security and team officials prevented any escalation in the locker room, but there are still question marks about who wasn't where they were supposed to be after the game.

According to Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times, the NBA is investigating the incident and Ariza could face the harshest punishment as the "instigator."
