Kennesaw State Dresses Up 'Turnover Plank' for Game vs. Charleston Southern
The Miami Hurricanes' turnover chain has become a constant on Saturdays, but it's not the only school to celebrate takeaways with a prop.
The Kennesaw State Owls, a Big South football team from Georgia, invented the turnover plank to commemorate big plays.
Per the Wilmington Star-News' Mike Foster, Taylor Henkle flaunted the piece of wood after capturing an interception in last week's 16-14 win over the Montana State Bobcats.
According to MDJ Online's John Bednarowski, the trophy is inspired by Plank from the cartoon Ed, Edd n Eddy. It's awarded to players following notable moments beyond turnovers.
"It just adds a little something to the celebration of making a big play," Henkle told Bednarowski. "You have to remember to move on to the next play, but little things like that make it a little extra fun."
Prior to Saturday's home game against the Charleston Southern Buccaneers, Kennesaw State made sure the turnover plank adhered to proper business attire. Like the players, it arrived to Fifth Third Bank Stadium wearing a suit and tie.
As Bednarowski detailed, the Owls also celebrate big plays by going to defensive lineman Desmond Johnson's imaginary sideline barbershop.
Entering Saturday with an eight-game winning streak, the Owls have had plenty to celebrate.
