A Texas native who has starred at Port Neches-Groves High School, Johnson is the 118th-ranked player overall and seventh-ranked quarterback among all 2019 recruits. He's also the No. 3 signal-caller in Texas.
A true dual-threat quarterback, Johnson gashed opposing defenses during his sophomore season.
According to 247Sports, the 6'0", 180-pound gunslinger completed 143 of 232 passes for 2,318 yards and 26 touchdowns while throwing just six interceptions in 2016. Johnson also rushed 250 times for 1,650 yards and 30 scores.
Beyond the fact that he can take the form of an elite running back when he gets in space, Johnson has serious arm strength that stands out on tape when he has time to sit back in the pocket and load up to hit receivers on deep vertical routes down the middle.
However, some questions remain about his ability to hit receivers on timing patterns out along the boundary.
That said, he has two more years in high school to evolve into a more complete passer before he makes the move to Austin and vies for a starting job with the Longhorns.
