Jamaica and Canada battle for a spot in the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, as the pair take to the pitch at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on Thursday.

Both nations are unbeaten in the current edition of the competition, harbouring genuine ambitions of making it to the last four.

The Reggae Boyz proved their worth as they held reigning champions Mexico to a goalless draw, but Canada will ask questions of their defence after scoring five in the group phase.

Canada will hope their firepower sees them through against Jamaica, but their opponents have proved they have defensive depth.

Canada have become a very difficult side to beat, holding their own in the past 12 months, but they have not made the Gold Cup semi-finals for 10 years.

In contrast, the Jamaican team were surprise finalists at the last tournament before being defeated 3-1 by Mexico.

Their current side will set out to frustrate the Canadians, and both teams will have caution in their minds ahead of potential extra time.

According to FIFA, Jamaica hold a superior position in the world rankings of No. 76, compared to Canada who stand at No. 100. 

Jamaica's experience could see them through against a dangerous team, but Canada will be motivated to push forward.

The contest could go all the way to extra time as both sides dig in, and Jamaica have not scored many goals in their matches.

Qualifying with Mexico, Jamaica relied on their defensive ability, conceding just once in Group C.

If Canada can score early they will destroy Jamaica's plan and force their opponents to play a more expansive game.

Jamaica have the ability to do this and hit back, but they will think about shutting the Canucks down until the last possible moment.
