Nittany Lion Offense is Resurrected Against Iowa
After two lackluster performances against Michigan and Illinois, Penn State brought its A-game against the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday.
Although expected to be a low-scoring game, with two stellar defensive lines, it was anything but as Penn State finished Iowa with a final score of 27-7.
Senior running back Rodney Kinlaw ran for 168 yards on 28 carries in the winning effort. It was a career day for the senior who had two of PSU's three touchdowns.
From Penn State's weekly question mark, Anthony Morelli, came a satisfactory performance. He went 18-31 for 233 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.
It was an improvement from the last two weeks when Morelli struggled in games on the road against Big Ten rivals Michigan and Illinois.
There's no doubting Morelli's potential–he has an incredibly strong arm and can be very accurate. But it is his decision-making that remains inconsistent.
Morelli has brilliant games as a result of these abilities, but I believe the arm strength can occasionally be a curse. Under pressure, Morelli sometimes tries to use his strength to force throws into holes that aren't there.
It remains up in the air how the quarterback situation for Penn State will work out.
It depends on how the team does as a whole for the rest of the year, and if they stay in contention for a conference championship or a big bowl game.
If not, it is still unknown how much playing time Morelli will have with two junior quarterbacks waiting on the sideline.
