Toronto Blue Jays' Jose Bautista Nearing 900 Career RBI

Bleacher Report MilestonesJun 27, 2017

Toronto Blue Jays right fielder Jose Bautista enters Tuesday night's game against the Baltimore Orioles requiring just three RBI to reach 900 for his career, per Sportsnet Stats.

Bautista has served as a cornerstone of the franchise for a number of seasons, landing in the middle of the order. The veteran sought out a multi-year contract in the offseason but ultimately settled for a one-year deal to return to Toronto when the market didn't share the same opinion.

In his prime, Bautista was consistently collecting 30 or more home runs on a yearly basis. He led the league in home runs both in 2010 and 2011 and notched 124 and 103 RBI, respectively, in those two campaigns. While he's never led the majors in RBI, Bautista has reached triple digits in the category on four different occasions.

Bautista also earned six straight All-Star nominations between 2010-2015. Over that span, he smacked 227 home runs and drove in 582 runs while posting a respectable .268 batting average. Unfortunately, things have taken a turn for the worse over the last couple seasons.

Over 116 contests in 2016, Bautista hit just 22 home runs while batting just .234 on the year. The 36-year-old was handed a one-year contract with the Blue Jays to prove his worth this season but has proceeded to post the same .234 average with just 13 home runs through 75 contests in 2017.

While Bautista's run with the Blue Jays could be nearing its end, he does rank highly on a number of team leaderboards. He sits tied with Joe Carter for the fourth spot on the team's all-time RBI list and second in home runs (278) to Carlos Delgado (336).

If 2017 does wrap Bautista's career with Toronto, he'll certainly leave fans with plenty of positive memories. One of the most infamous occurred in 2015 when he crushed a go-ahead home run in the seventh inning of the ALDS-deciding Game 5 against the Texas Rangers.

For now, Bautista and the Blue Jays are focused on climbing out of the 36-39 hole they've dug themselves in early this season. Despite the struggles, the team rests just 5.5 games back of the AL East division lead heading into Tuesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles.
