Derek Fisher Talks DUI Crash, Says It's Important 'No One Else Was Injured'

Timothy RappJun 5, 2017

Derek Fisher briefly spoke with TMZ Sports following his car accident over the weekend that resulted in the former NBA player and coach being arrested for DUI.

"The most important part is that we're here and that no one else was injured," Fisher said. "So from here, just focusing on the positives."

TMZ also showed the aftermath of the crash:

Those comments mirrored a statement Fisher and his girlfriend, former Basketball Wives reality star Gloria Govan, released on Sunday, per ESPN.com:

"'We are beyond grateful that we are both OK and no one else was involved,' Fisher and Govan said in a joint statement Sunday. The two-sentence statement also thanked supporters for their thoughts and prayers, but it did not address the drunken driving arrest."

Fisher was driving with Govan on Sunday morning at the time of the accident. He veered into the shoulder and then hit a raised curb and guardrail, causing his vehicle to flip on its back.

Both Fisher and Govan left the crash uninjured, but Fisher was then arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Fisher spent 18 seasons in the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, Utah Jazz, Oklahoma City Thunder and Dallas Mavericks. He also coached the New York Knicks for parts of two seasons.
