Kyrie Irving Announced as NBA2K18 Cover Athlete

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving was announced Thursday as the cover athlete for the NBA 2K18 video game.

The game's official Twitter account tweeted the following photo of the prospective cover:

NBA 2K18 is set to be released in September.

This marks the first time a player wearing a Cavs uniform will grace the cover of an NBA 2K game. Irving's Cavaliers teammate LeBron James was on the cover of NBA 2K14, but that was during his stint with the Miami Heat.

Irving has developed into a superstar alongside James, and 2016-17 has arguably been his best season yet.

The four-time All-Star averaged a career-high 25.2 points per game during the regular season to go along with 5.8 assists and 3.2 rebounds.

He has also been key in Cleveland's advancement to the NBA Finals, putting up 24.5 points per contest during this year's playoffs.

Irving entered Cavaliers lore forever last season when he hit what turned out to be the game-winning shot in Game 7 of the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors.

Kyrie and Co. will have a chance to go for the repeat this year, as they will clash with the Warriors in the NBA Finals for the third consecutive season.
