Liverpool under-23s fired back from a goal down to beat Leicester City 3-1 in their Premier League 2 clash on Monday, a result that saw the Merseysiders move back within five points of second-placed Manchester City in Division 1.

Josh Gordon scored for the Foxes before Rhian Brewster pulled level, with Matt Virtue and Harry Wilson adding second-half strikes to turn their revival into a valuable three points at Holmes Park.

Elsewhere, Donovan Wilson netted the only goal in Wolves' trip to face Division 2 opponents Middlesbrough, moving the Birmingham outfit four points clear of their competition in second, although they remain 11 points off leaders Swansea City.

Recap

Monday's meeting hardly got off to the finest of starts for Liverpool after Leicester's Gordon got the better of his defender and prodded home after 22 minutes to hand the hosts their lead.

However, teenager Brewster continued his scoring run after bagging in a recent friendly against Hoffenheim and diverted in a timely equaliser after the break, drawing praise from Liverpool football writer David Segar:

Leicester's second-half misery continued when Virtue put the visitors ahead for the first time, and Wilson boosted his 2016-17 tally with a third to seal the result late on, per Liverpool's official Twitter account:

The Reds will play host to Manchester City next Monday before ending their campaign against rivals and Division 1 leaders Everton the following week, giving them a tough end to the season, albeit with chances to make a statement.

In Division 2, Wolves wiz Wilson came up with the goods in the 82nd minute of Wolves' clash at Boro to rescue three points for the travelling team and climb level at the summit of the top-scorer charts, per Youth Academies:

Wilson's 12th goal of the campaign was enough to see the visitors cement their place at second in Division 2 and boost his side's chances of making a run at promotion come the end of this season.

Swansea remain the runaway leaders as things stand, having won 16 of their 21 matches thus far, but Wolves have now gone without defeat in their last four outings and are gathering pace at just the right time.

At the opposite end of the table, Stoke took the initiative in their meeting with West Brom when Tom Edwards turned to fire in the opener after just three minutes, although Alex Bradley equalised from the edge of the box on the 30-minute mark.

The Potters gathered their composure and dug out the winner thanks to 18-year-old defender Harry Souttar's cool finish in front of goal, moving Stoke within a point of 10th-placed Middlesbrough with one game left in their season.
