Andres Iniesta Called a 'Painter' by Luis Enrique After Barcelona Beat Sevilla

Rory MarsdenApr 6, 2017

Barcelona manager Luis Enrique compared Andres Iniesta to a painter after the Spaniard's fine performance in the Blaugrana's 3-0 La Liga win over Sevilla at the Camp Nou on Wednesday.

As well as heaping praise on Iniesta after the clash, Enrique acknowledged the midfielder's frustration at not having played more—he has completed 90 minutes only six times in La Liga this season—per Sport's Javier Miguel:

"

What Iniesta represents not just for Barca but for football, too, is that he's able to make a rough sport like football look subtle, as if he was a painter. He is an example for kids around the world and of values for everyone.

I know that he wants more minutes, I'm aware of that, but he still has a lot of years of elite football ahead of him and hope they'll be with Barcelona.

As he so often does, Iniesta, 32, pulled the strings from the middle of the park as a Luis Suarez strike and Lionel Messi double in the first 45 minutes saw Barca to a comfortable victory against Sevilla, per Squawka:

It was a landmark evening for Iniesta at the Camp Nou, as it marked his 700th appearance for Barcelona, per Sport's David Salinas.

A graduate of the club's famed La Masia academy, the Spain international has won 28 trophies with Barca including eight La Liga titles and four UEFA Champions Leagues.

His current contract only runs until 2018, but there seems little chance he will not be offered a new one, assuming he is eager to play on further.

Iniesta proved against Sevilla that he remains a hugely valuable part of Enrique's squad and he will be vital in the closing stages of the season as Barca look to win a league, cup and Champions League treble.
