Eldense Coach Filippo Vito di Pierro Arrested Amidst Match-Fixing Investigation
Eldense coach Filippo Vito di Pierro has been arrested as part of an investigation into match-fixing involving the Segunda B club. Investigations have been ongoing since Eldense lost 12-0 Saturday to Barcelona B, according to Goal's Dom Farrell.
Not only has the manager been detained, with his arrest coming one day after La Liga president Javier Tebas announced an investigation would be launched, but Farrell's report also indicated one more person connected to the club has been taken into custody: "Spanish news agency EFE reported Italian investor Nobile Capuani had also been arrested. Both Vito di Pierro and Capuani deny any wrongdoing."

Yet one thing clear so far is how Barca B are not implicated in any allegations pertaining to match-fixing, according to Farrell. Instead, the investigation continues to focus on Eldense.
The lopsided defeat to Barcelona's academy players sent Eldense down. Getting relegated was followed by the club's board announcing they would cease running, per Farrell.
However, one board member, David Aguilar, told Spanish radio station Cadena Cope (h/t Farrell) he plans to keep the club going with youth players. It won't be easy, though, especially under the cloud of arrests and the continuing investigation.
