Star Sixes 2017: Group-Stage Fixtures, Dates Released for Legends Tournament

England have been drawn in a group with Scotland, Spain and Mexico for the inaugural 2017 Star Sixes football tournament, set to involve numerous former international superstars including Steven Gerrard, Roberto Carlos, Michael Ballack and Carles Puyol. 

Taking place at London's O2 Arena in July, Ballack's Germany side face arguably the toughest challenge in a group with France, Portugal and Denmark. Meanwhile, Brazil drew Italy, Nigeria and China, per Star Sixes:

Sky Sports News HQ's David Garrido provided an explanation of the legends tournament's format, with all fixtures set to be played between July 13 and July 16, 2017:

Joining captain Gerrard in the England team will be former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand, Liverpool legend Michael Owen, as well as forward Emile Heskey and goalkeeper David James.

They will face a Spain side set to include former Barcelona captain Puyol, La Liga and UEFA Champions League winner Michel Salgado and Gaizka Mendieta, and the two sides will likely battle for top spot in Group A.

However, England's clash with Scotland will also be a thrilling encounter given the historic rivalry between the two countries—it is set to take place on Friday, July 14, with Garrido providing the full schedule:

Group C includes four of the biggest names in European football, and the pedigree set to be on show among the Germans, French, Danish and Portuguese is remarkable.

Robert Pires will lead Les Bleus, ably assisted by the likes of William Gallas and Marcel Desailly. 

Ballack's Germany side will also include former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann, Deco will captain the Portugal team, while seasoned internationals Martin Jorgensen and Stig Tofting will play for the Denmark outfit.

Group B is likely to be the most entertaining. Not only will Real Madrid legend Carlos be turning out for Brazil, but the effervescent Jay-Jay Okocha will captain the Nigeria side, while perennial winners Italy will likely be a match for any team in the tournament.
