Premier League Fixtures: Live Stream, TV Schedule and Week 28 EPL Predictions

Matt JonesMar 10, 2017

Liverpool can make up ground on their rivals for a top-four finish in the Premier League on Sunday, as they host Burnley in Week 28 of a reduced schedule.

With Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United all still involved in the FA Cup quarter-finals over the weekend, the Reds are the only team in the top six playing a league match. A win will consolidate their spot in fourth and move them up to within one point of second.

Elsewhere, seventh-placed Everton host eighth-placed West Bromwich Albion in what will be an important match in the battle for what is likely to be the final UEFA Europa League spot. Swansea City also travel to Hull City in a key contest at the bottom of the table.

Everton vs. West Brom

Although Everton's slender hopes of pushing for a top-four spot late in the season took a big hit at Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, there's still plenty to be positive about at Goodison Park.

Ronald Koeman has the Toffees playing an aggressive and incisive style of football, with the team consolidating their status as the strongest side outside the traditional top six. Their form on their own patch has been excellent this season, too, with just one defeat coming at the hands of Liverpool.

In Romelu Lukaku, Everton also have one of the division's premier goalscoring talents to call upon. The club's official Twitter feed summed up his importance to the side:

West Brom will need to be alert if they're to stop Lukaku from adding to his tally on Saturday, although Tony Pulis' side have shown so often they have the defensive aptitude to frustrate talented opposition.

Indeed, they will feel that if they can shut down Lukaku, they can keep Everton out and potentially nick something themselves through their set-piece proficiency. If they were to win, West Brom would be a single point behind the Toffees in the table.

Per MailOnline Sport, in Gareth McAuley, the Baggies have a huge weapon from set pieces:

West Brom will threaten in this one, especially against an Everton defensive duo of Ashley Williams and Ramiro Funes Mori, who have looked a little shaky as of late. However, Koeman's side are a fierce proposition in their own back yard, and with Lukaku in fine form, they'll sneak a win.

Prediction: Everton 2-1 West Brom

Liverpool vs. Burnley

Jurgen Klopp might have preferred to see his team in the FA Cup quarter-finals this weekend, but he'll be desperate to see Liverpool take advantage of the unique opportunity presented to them in Week 28.

Playing against Burnley, the team with the worst away record in the Premier League, may sound like a straightforward assignment for Liverpool. However, the stylistic challenge of facing a team with little attacking ambition is one they have struggled with this season.

As these numbers from OptaJoe show, when Liverpool do come up against teams in the upper reaches of the table, they thrive:

But their sharp attackers are easily blunted by an organised, energetic and aggressive opponent. If Liverpool are to finish in one of the UEFA Champions League places between now and the end of the campaign, it's an issue that they must find a remedy for.

Burnley have issues of their own away from home, though. While Sean Dyche has his players purring at Turf Moor, they struggle to achieve the same standards when travelling away, with no win secured on the road yet in 2016-17.

Per Seb Stafford-Bloor of FourFourTwo, Dyche was disappointed with the way Burnley acquitted themselves in their 3-2 loss to Swansea last time out:

Liverpool's own frailties will give the Clarets some cause for optimism, as will the fact that Burnley got the better of the Reds 2-0 earlier in the season.

But this should be a comfortable home win for Liverpool. They may have to be patient against a team that will adopt a very cautious approach on the day, although eventually the class in their forward line will prove to be decisive.

Prediction: Liverpool 2-0 Burnley
