Lance Stephenson Signs with Minnesota Timberwolves
Shooting guard Lance Stephenson, who was cut by the New Orleans Pelicans in November to clear roster space after he required groin surgery, was one of the most intriguing veteran free agents on the market.
However, he has found a new home in the NBA with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The team announced the 10-day contract Wednesday after The Vertical's Shams Charania first reported the agreement on Tuesday.
Stephenson, 26, played in just six games this season for the Pelicans, averaging 9.7 points, 4.8 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 27.0 minutes per contest. He was solid in the 26 games he played during the 2015-16 season for the Memphis Grizzlies, posting 14.2 points and 4.4 rebounds in 26.6 minutes per game.
Stephenson's career has been full of peaks and valleys.
At his best, he's an excellent defender and secondary playmaker who can provide offense with double-digit scoring off the bench or in a starting role. At his worst, however, he's blown into LeBron James' ear and caused distractions.
