Chris Paul 1st Player to Total 20 Points and 20 Assists Without Turnover
Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul notched 20 points and 20 assists in Saturday's 133-105 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.
In doing so, he became the first player since individual turnovers were first recorded in 1977-78 to total 20 in both categories without a turnover, per Elias Sports Bureau (via ESPN Stats & Info).
Paul averages the fourth-most assists per game this season at 9.4 per contest. He trails just James Harden (11.6), Russell Westbrook (11.3) and John Wall (9.6) in the category. He also continues to be a pest on the defensive end of the floor, leading the league with 2.50 steals per game.
Despite earning playoff bids in each of the last five seasons, the Clippers have yet to advance past the second round. The team appears headed in the right direction and could finally challenge for a spot in the Western Conference Finals this season.
The Clippers currently sit at 17-7 on the season, tying them for third in the West alongside the Houston Rockets. However, the team has gone just 3-2 in December and 3-5 in its last eight games.
Paul remains the engine that runs Los Angeles' offense, posting double-digit assist totals in 10 games this season. If the team has any hopes of making a run in the postseason, the perennial All-Star point guard should be at the center of it.
