Pittsburgh 73, Maryland 59

Maryland suffered its first loss of the season to a Pittsburgh team that improved to 6-1 on Tuesday night.

It was also Pitt's first nonconference road win in quite some time, per Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan:

Pitt's dynamic duo of Michael Young and Jamel Artis scored 25 and 22 points, respectively, to lead all scorers on the night, helping the program pick up a resume-building win.

The Panthers used a monster end of the first half to build a double-digit lead on Maryland. In the final 6:20 of the half, Pitt embarked on a 19-4 run to build a 26-20 lead into a 45-24 halftime lead.

Vice Sports' Sun Ming Kim couldn't believe what he was seeing:

A lot of it had to do with the Terps' inability to hold on to the basketball as they committed 10 turnovers in the first 20 minutes.

Once Maryland was able to hold on to the ball, the deficit began to dwindle as it gave the ball away just four times in the second half. It got to as small as eight in the final three minutes, but the Terps ran out of time.

Melo Trimble led his school with 13 points, while Anthony Cowan added 11.

Penn State 67, Georgia Tech 60

Shep Garner's 17 points was just enough to carry Penn State to a seven-point win over Georgia Tech in a tightly contested affair.

Neither team held more than a four-point lead through the game's first 23 minutes, but Penn State's 7-0 run early in the second half ensured it would never trail for the remainder of the night.

Georgia Tech pulled to within one on multiple occasions but could not come up with that extra stop to put it over the top.

The Yellow Jackets had a pair of players score 13 points to lead the team in Quinton Stephens and Josh Okogie. Stephens also recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds, joining Ben Lammers, who put up 12 and 10, respectively.

Wisconsin 77, Syracuse 60

Wisconsin star big man Nigel Hayes was just one point away from the second triple-double in program history when he made his way to the foul line for a one-and-one free-throw opportunity with less than a minute remaining in the game and the No. 17 Badgers up big on No. 22 Syracuse.

But Hayes would miss his chance and settle for a nine-point, 11-rebound and career-high 10-assist performance to lead Wisconsin to its sixth win of the season.

He led a masterful performance against Syracuse's zone defense, as the Big Ten Network showed his ability to facilitate:

Ethan Happ recorded a game-high 24 points to lead Wisconsin as the main beneficiary of Hayes' play, while Bronson Koenig added 20 in the win.

The Badgers utilized a 12-0 run at the beginning of the second half to blow the game open as John Jastremski of WFAN had to give credit to the victors:

But ESPN's Jeff Goodman realized how important Hayes is to Wisconsin moving forward:

Syracuse shot just 38.1 percent from the field on the night, making a comeback on a clicking Wisconsin offense all the more difficult as it lost its second consecutive game.

Notre Dame 92, Iowa 78

It wasn't pretty for most of the night, but Notre Dame pulled away late to improve its perfect record to 7-0 over the 3-4 Iowa Hawkeyes.

Holding just a two-point lead at halftime, Notre Dame used a 10-0 and 7-0 run during the second half to build a comfortable lead.

Much of the Irish's early struggles was attributed to an inability to play composed basketball (via Laken Litman of the Indianapolis Star):

It closed the gap for the rest of the night, finishing with a margin of 11 assists to 14 turnovers on the night.

Bonzie Colson continued to prove why he is one of the nation's best undersized power forwards, recording 24 points with a career-high 17 rebounds and three blocks, while Steve Vasturia added 22 in the win.

Illinois 88, NC State 74

Malcolm Hill scored 16 of his game-high 22 points to lead Illinois to a comfortable win over NC State to end a tree-game losing streak.

Illinois outscored NC State 56-41 in the second half to secure the win and erase a first-half deficit.

Hill used his aggressive style of play to his advantage, cutting to the basket while earning trips to the free- throw line. Of his 22 points, 12 of them came from the charity stripe on 15 attempts.

Tracy Abrams hit three of five  three-pointers on his way to a supporting 17 points for Illinois.

NC State was plagued by turnovers on the night, giving the ball up 19 times and presenting Illinois with plenty of easy, fast-break opportunities to extend its lead.

Duke 78, Michigan State 69

No. 5 Duke took full advantage of the mistakes committed by an inexperienced Michigan State team to pull ahead late during Tuesday night's headlining game of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

In a game that was tied at halftime at 35, Duke reeled off an 11-0 second-half run to build an insurmountable lead for its 130th straight nonconference home victory, via the ESPN telecast.

Michigan State all but gift-wrapped Duke's scoring chances thanks to its 18 turnovers on the night, including five during that killer run.

ESPN's Jay Bilas couldn't get over the Spartans' glaring inexperience (via Brad Galli of WXYZ-TV):

Duke, though, managed to pull out the win despite using just six players during the entire night. Harry Giles, Jayson Tatum and Marques Bolden all sat out on Tuesday, forcing the Blue Devils to go out with a thin bench, much to the entertainment of the Undefeated's Kofie Yeboah:

Grayson Allen carried the scoring load in their absences, scoring a game-high 24 points, while Luke Kennard and Amile Jefferson added 20 and 17, respectively.

For Michigan State, Eron Harris led the team with 14 points, while freshman phenom Miles Bridges added 11. But an audacious early schedule has been tough on the Spartans as they sank to 4-4 on the season.

Duke on the other hand has to be happy with its performance against a powerhouse program, no matter how bad it's struggling—especially with three key contributors not suited up. Once that trio comes back, the Blue Devils could be a terrifying team to play this winter.
