Oklahoma is 4-0 against West Virginia since the latter joined the Big 12 five years ago, covering the last two meetings with two double-digit wins. But the Big 12-leading Sooners can expect a tighter game when they meet the third-place Mountaineers on Saturday night in Morgantown.

Point spread: The Sooners opened as 4.5-point favorites, according to sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark (line updates and matchup report).

Why the Oklahoma Sooners can cover the spread

OU remained perfect in conference play and extended its winning streak to seven in a row by beating Baylor last week, 45-24. The Sooners grabbed a 7-0 lead four minutes into the game, pushed that advantage to 21-0 early in the second quarter and cruised from there for the cover as 17-point favorites.

Oklahoma racked up 553 yards of offense on the Bears, as quarterback Baker Mayfield threw for 300 and both Joe Mixon and Samaje Perine hit the 100-rushing-yard mark. The Sooners also won time of possession by a 36-24 margin and the turnover battle, 3-1.

OU is now 7-0 SU in Big 12 play this season and 4-3 ATS, which isn't bad, considering they've been favored in every game by an average of 17 points per game.

Why the West Virginia Mountaineers can cover the spread

WVU carries a two-game winning streak after topping Texas, 24-20. The Mountaineers spotted the Longhorns an early field goal, then scored the next 17 points to take the lead for good on their way toward a cover as one-point favorites on the road.

Texas actually outgained WVU (536-383) and turned the ball over four times, but the Mountaineers defense created three Longhorns turnovers and made three stops inside its own territory while protecting a late lead.

On the season, West Virginia has outgained and outrushed seven of nine opponents. At 5-1 in conference play, the Mountaineers trail Oklahoma by a game-and-a-half, but this is their chance to grab the tiebreaker.

Smart pick

The Sooners struggled earlier this season but seem to be steaming along right now.

And Joe Mixon and Samaje Perine are both back in action after each missed some time recently. Plus, playing on the road means the spread at online betting sites is a little friendlier toward Oklahoma. This should be a good one, and the Mountaineers won't go quietly, but the smart money sides with the Sooners.

Betting trends

The total has gone over in four of Oklahoma's last five games against West Virginia.

Oklahoma is 14-0 SU and 10-4 ATS in its last 14 games against its conference.

Oklahoma is 10-0 SU in its last 10 games on the road.
