Why the Oklahoma Sooners can cover the spread

OU owns a five-game winning streak after dispatching of Kansas last week 56-3. The Sooners grabbed a 7-0 lead on Dede Westbrook's 71-yard punt return for a score five minutes into the game, led 28-3 at the half, then secured the cover of 39 points by winning the second half 28-0.

On the night, Oklahoma outgained the Jayhawks 538-170, piling up 267 yards on the ground. Meanwhile, quarterback Baker Mayfield threw four touchdown passes without a pick and now owns an 11-0 touchdowns-to-interceptions ratio over the last two games.

The Sooners have now outrushed each of their five conference foes this season by an average of almost 150 yards per game.

At 5-0 in the conference play, Oklahoma leads the Big 12 by a game over second-place Oklahoma State. The Sooners get the Cowboys in Norman in the season finale December 3.

Why the Iowa State Cyclones can cover the spread

ISU is only 1-7 on the season but is also 5-1 ATS over its last six games. Last week, the Cyclones lost to Kansas State 31-26 but came through with a backdoor cover as six-point home dogs. Iowa State trailed early, pulled to within 17-10 early in the third quarter, fell down by 21 but rallied to score the last 16 points of the game to steal the cash.

The Cyclones actually outgained the Wildcats 493-398, as sophomore quarterback Jacob Park threw for a career-high 301 yards and two touchdowns.

Earlier this year as a 17-point underdog, Iowa State led Baylor basically the entire game before losing on a field goal at the buzzer. And just after that, as 14-point underdogs, the Cyclones led Oklahoma State by 17 points in the third quarter before giving way in a 38-31 defeat. So the Cyclones have given good performances against quality foes before.

Smart pick

Oklahoma suffered a couple of early-season losses but found its groove once Big 12 play began, hitting the 45-point mark four out of five games. Plus, playing on the road means the spread is a little friendlier. The smart money at sports betting sites here sides with the Sooners.

Betting trends

Oklahoma is 9-2 ATS in its last 11 games against Iowa State.

Iowa State is 0-8 SU and 2-6 ATS in its last eight games in November.

Oklahoma is 6-1 ATS in its last seven games on the road.
