College Football Recruits Who Dominated the Stat Sheet in Week 9

Tyler DonohueOct 30, 2016

The final weekend of October presented an array of postseason implications for high school football programs throughout America. These marquee matchups between community rivals and state-title contenders can often define an entire season, challenging standout athletes to step up despite mounting pressure.

Each week at Bleacher Report, we evaluate college football recruits who rally their respective prep teams with dominant performances. The 2016 campaign reaches a new level of importance in November, but let's first take a look back at notable efforts from this past weekend.

Elite quarterback prospects and destructive defenders highlight our latest rundown.

5-Star LB Anthony Hines III

Class: 2017

High School: Plano East (Plano, Texas)

Size: 6'3", 225 lbs

Scout.com Ranking: No. 1 inside linebacker

Recruitment Status: Offers include Florida, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Texas and Texas A&M

Plano East High School ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard, losing 38-31 against Lone Star State powerhouse Allen High School. However, the end result shouldn't overshadow what top-ranked inside linebacker recruit Anthony Hines III accomplished.

He further illustrated his sideline-to-sideline effectiveness against an impressive offensive attack, recording 27 total tackles (19 solo), per MaxPreps. Hines has accrued at least 20 total tackles in seven games this season, securing 32 tackles for loss in the process to go with four sacks and two interceptions.

Class: 2017

High School: Tanner (Tanner, Alabama)

Size: 6'0", 190 lbs

Scout.com Ranking: No. 9 athlete

Recruitment Status: Committed to Alabama

Chadarius Townsend attracted early collegiate attention on both sides of the ball, presenting potential at running back, wide receiver and defensive back. Pledged to the Crimson Tide since the summer of 2015, he did plenty of damage out of the offensive backfield Friday, racing for big gains throughout a 35-14 victory over East Limestone High School.

Townsend totaled 195 yards on just 11 rushing attempts, according to Drew Champlin of AL.com. He reached the end zone four times, with two touchdowns coming from distances beyond 50 yards, while adding 65 passing yards and a punt-block recovery.

5-Star QB Jake Fromm

3 of 8

Class: 2017

High School: Houston County (Warner Robins, Georgia)

Size: 6'2", 203 lbs

Scout.com Ranking: No. 3 quarterback

Recruitment Status: Committed to Georgia

Clemson Tigers superstar Deshaun Watson will eventually head to the NFL with plenty of accolades from his amateur football career, but "Georgia's all-time leading passer" may not be one of them much longer. Jake Fromm continued his assault on the Peach State record books Friday, throwing for 520 yards in a 45-35 win over Northside High School, per Ryan Jordan of the Telegraph.

Fromm, an Elite 11 finalist and former Little League World Series star, added 122 yards on the ground and tallied four touchdowns. According to Jeff Sentell of Dawg Nation, the Bulldogs pledge is now less than 450 yards shy of surpassing Watson atop the state's career passing leaderboard (13,077 yards).

He again demonstrated his dominance as a defensive linchpin Thursday against Durango High School, returning an interception 37 yards for a score as Bishop Gorman remained unbeaten with a 56-0 win, per MaxPreps. Kirklin carried the football seven times for 80 yards and four scores, tossing an additional two touchdowns as part of his 12-of-17 passing performance. During the past two games—both victories—he has tallied 11 total touchdowns (six passing and five rushing).

Sanders emerged as a blue-chip prospect last season, averaging 11.4 yards per carry en route to 1,063 yards and 12 scores, per MaxPreps.
