College Football Scores 2016: Week 9 Results, Twitter Reaction and Highlights

There would be no last-play disaster for Michigan (8-0) this year against in-state rival Michigan State (2-6).

This year, the undefeated Wolverines handed the Spartans a 32-23 defeat on their home turf in East Lansing, Michigan.

The second-ranked Wolverines used their strong passing attack to take charge of the game in the first half and maintain a secure hold on it, something they were unable to do a year ago.

The Spartans scored the game-winning touchdown in 2015 on the final play of the game, when Michigan botched a punt and Michigan was able to recover the football and run it into the end zone for the decisive score.

The Spartans are struggling this season, but head coach Mark Dantonio was able to get his team prepared for the Wolverines, and they opened the game with an impressive touchdown drive.

However, Michigan responded with back-to-back touchdowns by Heisman Trophy candidate Jabrill Peppers and De'Veon Smith. That gave the Wolverines a lead they would not relinquish.

Florida (14)24-10GeorgiaFlorida: Defense holds Georgia to 21 rushing yards.

The Spartans ran the ball well and gained 217 rushing yards, and they were led by L.J. Scott's 139-yard effort. However, Michigan State had problems finishing its drives and putting the ball in the end zone against Michigan's powerful defense.

Quarterback Wilton Speight was able to escape pressure and dictate the pace for the Michigan offense. He completed 16 of 25 passes for 244 yards.

Peppers had five carries for 24 yards, four solo tackles, a sack and two tackles for loss.

The victory was Michigan's second in its last nine games against Michigan State. The Spartans have lost six games in a row after opening the season with back to back wins.

Texas (4-4) knocked No. 8 Baylor (6-1) from the ranks of the undefeated with a 35-34 victory in Austin.

The Longhorns were trailing 34-26 in the fourth quarter, but they came back when Shane Buechele connected with Andrew Beck on a seven-yard touchdown pass and Trent Domingue connected on a 39-yard go-ahead field goal with 46 seconds left.

The embattled Texas defense kept Baylor from mounting a last-second drive, and that gave the Longhorns the victory.

Stars of the Week

WR Amara Darboh, Michigan

Amara Darboh was not about to go through his career at Michigan without a victory against Michigan State.

Darboh used his size, strength, speed and skill to get the best of the Spartans defense, and he made clutch catches throughout the game. Darboh caught eight passes from Speight for a game-high 165 yards.

Darboh was able to use his 6'2", 215-pound body to wall off Michigan State's smaller defensive backs so he could make the tough catches over the middle and keep drives alive.

Darboh was the most dominant offensive player on the field for the victorious Wolverines.

QB Lamar Jackson, Louisville

Louisville (7-1) was able to escape with a hard-fought 32-25 victory over Virginia (2-6), when Jackson threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Jaylen Smith with 13 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Jackson dominated the game for the Cardinals, as he completed 24 of 41 passes for 361 yards with four touchdowns and just one interception. He was also Louisville's leading rusher, as he gained 90 yards on 18 carries.

Virginia had taken the lead on Kurt Benkert's four-yard TD pass to Doni Dowling with 1:57 left, but Jackson was able to lead Louisville to the game-winning score.

RB Saquon Barkley, Penn State

A week after helping Penn State (6-2) earn an upset victory over Ohio State, Barkley continued to show off his talent in the Nittany Lions' 62-24 triumph over outmanned Purdue (3-5).

Barkley demonstrated his speed and agility as he carried the ball 18 times for 207 yards and two touchdowns. That included an 81-yard run for a score early in the fourth quarter.

Barkley also played a key role as a receiver, as he caught three passes for 70 yards in the blowout victory.

RB Joe Williams, Utah

The Utah Utes (7-2) were primed to give the Washington Huskies (8-0) their first defeat of the season, and the Utes pushed the visitors to the limit in their visit to Salt Lake City.

However, when Dante Pettis returned a punt 58 yards for the go-ahead touchdown with 3:25 remaining, that was the difference in a 31-24 Washington victory.

The loss put a damper on an excellent effort by Williams, who ran the ball 35 times for 172 yards and a touchdown.

The 5'11", 205-pound Williams ran with power throughout the game. While he didn't have a run longer than 18 yards, he did a good job of keeping on his feet and getting the most he could out of each of his rushing attempts.
