Auburn Tigers vs. Ole Miss Rebels Betting Odds, Analysis, College Football Pick

OddsShark.comOct 25, 2016

Ole Miss knocked off Auburn last season, but before that, the Tigers had won five of the previous six meetings straight up, and they're 6-1 against the spread over the last seven. Auburn will look to stay alive in the SEC West race when it battles the Rebels in Oxford Saturday evening.

Point spread: The Tigers opened as two-point favorites, according to sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark (line updates and matchup report).

Why Auburn can cover the spread

Following a 1-2 start to this season, the Tigers are on a 4-0 SU and ATS run after devouring Arkansas last week 56-3. Auburn took a 7-0 lead four minutes into the game on a 78-yard jet sweep by wide receiver Eli Stove, led 28-0 before the Hogs could hit the board and poured it on from there, easily covering the 10-point spread.

The Tigers tripled Arkansas in total yardage at 632-215 and rushed for a new SEC in-conference record of 543 yards, as Kamryn Pettway popped for 192 of them and two touchdowns. He's now hit the 100-yard mark in four of his five games this season.

Three weeks ago, Auburn won at Mississippi State 38-14, covering a four-point spread and upping its record over its last four road games to 3-1 both SU and ATS. Also, at 3-1 in SEC play, the Tigers are just a game-and-a-half back of first-place Alabama in the West with the Iron Bowl on the horizon.

Why Ole Miss can cover the spread

Ole Miss continued along with one of the top-five schedules in the country last week, falling 38-21 at rejuvenated LSU. The Rebels grabbed an early 10-0 lead and took a 21-21 tie into halftime, but they ran out of gas and lost the second half 17-0 while missing the cover as eight-point dogs.

Mississippi just didn't have an answer for a healthier Leonard Fournette, who ran around and through Rebels defenders for 284 yards, much of them in big chunks.

Two weeks ago, Ole Miss lost at Arkansas on a Hogs score with just two minutes to go. Prior to that, the Rebels had won two straight, and just before that, they nearly upset Alabama. The wins aren't coming like it'd hope, but Ole Miss can still play with just about anybody.

Smart pick

Auburn has outrushed five of its last six opponents, while the Rebels have been outrushed six of their last seven times out. Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly can throw a wrench into things, but the smart money at online betting sites here sides with the Tigers.

Betting trends

Auburn is 5-1-1 ATS in its last seven games against Mississippi.

Mississippi is 6-2 ATS in its last eight games after a loss.

Auburn is 11-3 SU in its last 14 games in October.
